Words of the Ministry

Today we continue with our theme, journeying with Jesus, we have learnt about the danger being presumptuous as everything we do as believers must be in God’s will to get God’s blessing. The next thing I like to highlight that would help us realize our God given goals is what I call counting the cost. Many believers having gotten the assurance that God is in a matter and it is God’s will for them to embark on their dreams for the new year, they make the mistake of poor planning, they don’t lay out a proper plan and see if they actually have what it takes. Yes, we can be sure its Gods will for us to take a certain step but even that step must come at a price. It is irresponsible Christianity that leaves everything to God, yes God plays a role but man takes the steps of sacrifice and planning. We cannot leave everything to God and expect our situation to change.

As you know, the major heartbeat of God for mankind is that all be saved and to this he has given us the great commission, but the question is, does everyone you share the gospel with get saved? Do they automatically receive the gospel with tears while on their kneels crying out for a change of Life? The answer is an obvious no, so likewise your desires, if you think because God has chosen a partner for you, it would be Rosey without any effort of maturity, sacrifice, patience and prayer, you are a joker. The will of God is most sought after by the devil. The devil only fights the will of God and having known God’s will be ready to pay the price because it must come at a price. The same principle affects your spiritual growth goals, business growth, church growth, character improvement, financial goals etc.

From today’s text, we see the Lord asking a pertinent question following the conditions he laid out for being his disciples. We can therefore see that even being a Christian comes at a cost and many cannot bear the cross cost as without it you can’t be a disciple. Jesus never said I would carry it for you. So carrying our cross is also counting the cost. This totally contradicts what we call faith in today’s Church where everything is left to God while believers remain passive. Jesus said whoever wants to build a tower must sit down and count what it entails before commencing else you become a laughing stock. Have you sat down to consider the cost of parenting, being a CEO, being a general overseer, traveling to a foreign land, occupying the new position, acquiring a new property, opening a new branch or even commencing a new Church project. Sit down today and ask yourself these questions, what is my goal, what plans do I have to achieve it, how long would it take, what do I need to sacrifice for it to come to pass, who do I have to engage or avoid on my journey etc? May the Lord grant us light.
