Today’s Reading:          Matt 1:18-21

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” NKJV

Words of the Ministry

Yesterday, we began looking at the several reasons for Christmas and we did emphasize that there was a vacuum in humanity that couldn’t be satisfied, not by God as God, not by angels, not by animal sacrifice and not even by man in his fallen state. We highlighted two of the problems that faced humanity and that was sin and sins. We did say, not only did man commit sins after the fall of man, he also became sin, in other words all man did was sin be it good or evil, love or hate, it was sin before God because the source of his life was from the tree of knowledge. While that was a problem on one hand, another pending issue was that of God’s economy. God wanting to enter into man as his life and his life supply. So on the one hand, we see the poisoned man needed a deliverance from within him from the tree of knowledge and on the other hand there was a need to fulfil God’s righteous demand for justice that says the soul that sins must die.

Yesterday we said while animal sacrifices covered the sins of mankind for a season, it wasn’t adequate to stop the source of sin and neither was it adequate to pay the penalty of sin for man because animals no matter their number is lower than man, hence the need for Christ the son of God born of a woman to be born. The bible said from today’s text that he was to be called Jesus because he would save his people from their sins. Jesus was born to be the actual fulfilment of the lamb of God, who with is shed blood doesn’t just cover our sins like the blood of sheep and goats but blots them away. In Heb 11.12-13, the author of Hebrews said concerning the new covenant which Jesus instituted with his shed blood that God would not only forgive our sins but he would remember them no more.

Saint, I like you to read this loud to your hearing 1 John 2:1-2. My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world, Amen. As we read those line we see that to celebrate the birth of Christ was to commemorate the day our deliverer was born, the savior of all who believe stepped into his creation as a lowly man to correct the problem in humanity, halleluiah, what a good news that the savior of my souls was born in this season. No more condemnation, no more fear, we can now approach the throne of grace to obtain mercy as needed. The sins problem has been taken care of, whenever we commit sins, we can repent and be sure he would forgive us.  We are no more bound by our past sins and guilt, the ever-living sacrifice and high priest is ever ready to wash us of all unrighteousness if we repent from our sins, shalom.
