Life Capsule for Today 18th Dec, 2024
Theme: Power of Positive Confession (4)
Topic: How confession translates to destiny
Memory Verse for the week: Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof
Today’s Reading: Joh 14:9 -12
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Words of the Ministry
Today I would attempt to describe how our confession affects our destiny and those around us. We need to realize that as saints, our words do matter to God and that is why we must be careful of unnecessary jesting, in fact the bible calls it sin Eph 5.-4. Unfortunately, that sinful act has become a part of our church services today where we bring in a comedian to make the congregation happy, the comedian now replacing the Holy Spirit. We would therefore notice that Jesus never jested from the bible record because the words he spoke was life and he expected it to have an effect. One could imagine Jesus telling Peter as a joke, you this crazy fellow, the implication would have been that Peter would immediately go insane. Jesus knew the power of his speech and guarded it, the reason many say positive things and still doesn’t come to pass is because even they don’t value their words hence it is powerless.
Jesus answering the disciples question on him showing them the father said once they have seen him, they have seen the father and verse 10 introduces something striking, Jhn 14.10b says the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. We immediately see an interchange between the works that the father did and the words of Jesus, so as Jesus spoke the words, the words became the works of the father. That is the meaning of our words being Spirit and Life, such were the words of Jesus and the works of Jesus. So as we read the gospels and see the various deeds of Jesus, those he healed, prayed for and even the tree he cursed, all were as a result of his words, so from Jesus perspective, he was living in the world of his words, he was eating the fruit of his words and his words were actually his work.
Jesus further said in verse 12 he said “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father”. Many love to quote this portion of scripture not mindful that the works that we saw Jesus do was his words, as he said them the father gave approval. To do greater works therefore would mean to speak the word of God in a greater degree. It is you calling what others call dead life, sick health, poverty prosperity, failure success etc. Saints you may now see why your world is contrary to the will of God because you spend time speaking what the ungodly world is saying. When you wake up to say, this year people would go through hell, you just passed a judgment of pain and suffering on yourself, little wonder your efforts are not yielding. When you call your spouse useless and good for nothing, you begin to experience sorrow in your family life. When you speak evil of your growing business calling it a waste of time, that begins to happen and so does evil speaking affect your children. Saints, the words we speak are spirit and life, it shapes our destiny and that of those around us, our words aren’t ordinary, God watches them to perform them. May the LORD grant us light.
