Words of the Ministry:

Yesterday we began a study on the power of praise, while we agree praise is good and powerful, many saints would also agree that it could appear as a burden especially when things don’t seem to go our way. We tend to be reluctant to praise God when our expectation seems delayed or denied, we wonder why we should even praise God when promises from the word seems to fail. Our natural tendencies are to complain and reflect more on those things that seems inadequate in our lives, this week like we introduced yesterday, we would be considering the power of praise especially as it affects us subjectively and consummates in our organic growth. We would consider in some cases a few examples and in other cases a direct teaching and benefit of praise.

I would like to reflect on the account of Jehoshaphat and that of Paul and Silas and the benefit they got from praising God. When we read 2 Chro 20.14-24, we would see a scary situation where King Jehoshaphat and Judah found themselves. They were to be attacked by three different enemies who were stronger and bent on killing the Israelites but the word of the Lord came to reassure them saying the battle is of God, Jehoshaphat and Judah believed and began to praise God, no one was castigating the other nor passing blames, they were a united force and immediately after then, their enemies began to fight one another until the wiped one another out. The Children of Judah didn’t have to fight neither did they lose a man only because they trusted the word from God and instead of worry they praised. We find ourselves in such difficulty situations, from every angle it seems the devil is having a field day, our finances, health, marriage and children may come under attack at once, we must like Jehoshaphat look into what the bible has to say and believe, by this we allow God to show his might in our lives.

Another example of God’s intervention due to praise is the account of Paul and Silas, who were both locked up in prison for doing the will of God (please read Act 16.17-26), many believers today can understand they being under crises as a result of their natural day to day activities and mistakes but can’t fathom why they should suffer obeying God, they feel it’s God’s work, why should God allow this trial. They forget that all things work for their good and in this world, believers must suffer persecution but God would always make a way. Paul and Silas were bound in prison for preaching the gospel.  They didn’t because of that begin to mummer and complain rather they were praising God, God intervened with a great earthquake, the prison keeper awoke from sleep and was terrified thinking Paul had escaped. On realizing they didn’t escape and that God intervened to show his power and love for his own, the prison keeper got saved, him and his household were baptized afterwards. From this event we see that not only does God intervene in our matters, he also uses our testimonies to save and help others. Do you know that as God would eventually intervene in your current challenge, it would not only build your confidence in God but also help younger saints to grow in faith and the unsaved to believe? May we remain an instrument of revival in God’s hand, amen.
