Theme: When God is Silent (2)

Topic: The Bridges called sin

Memory Verse for the week: Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Today’s Reading: Isa 59:1-2

1  Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

2  But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

1Jn 2:1

1  My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

2  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Words of the Ministry:

Today we would be considering the first reason why God may be silent and that is the matter of Sin. Someone said sin means satanic in nature, therefore to sin is to stand with the devil over a matter or situation. Sin has been the problem of mankind since the time of Adam. The Sin of Adam and Eve made them lose their first estate and God’s Prescence. As believers, the matter of sin also affects us but in a different way. While the unsaved in totally dead in the Spirit and in their sins, for the believer, sin breaks our fellowship with God. Although we remain his children, sin acts like a gap between us and God as the bible says our God is too holy to behold iniquity (Hab 1.13).

Sin should therefore not be taken lightly. By sin we mean anything done in disobedience to God regardless of the external glory it brings among men. Many times we can easily pinpoint sin by mentioning anger, pride, evil speaking, immoral looks, quarrelling, cheating, gossip etc but beyond this obvious works of the flesh, sin also include seemingly good acts like giving, hosting a program, tolerating certain evil persons, compromise etc. By implication, while the later seems good to us, if done in disobedience to God it constitutes sin and would affect our fellowship with God.

Our today’s reading has said it all, it says God’s hand are not short nor his ears heavy but our sin has brough about a separation, a bridge that affects our fellowship. One of the most noticeable things that happens to a believer when in God’s will is the joy of salvation bubbling from the inner man. You just have a sense of overwhelming Joy but when we go outside his will, we notice that it seems missing especially if we are the type that walks conscious of the Holy Spirit. Our second reading gives the way out which is approaching Christ as our advocate, repenting from our sin. By so doing, our fellowship is restored, and we again enjoy the guidance of the Holy Spirit. A simple rule to guide us is that whenever we feel God is silent, we should approach him in prayers asking him to reveal to us if we have gone outside his will. May the Lord grant us light.

I look forward to seeing you at the November edition of Peniel, it would be a night of glory, a supernatural outpouring of the spirit as we feast on the theme: The Integrity of God’s word. Come with family and friends, come, and see Jehovah at work, shalom!
