Today’s Reading:
Mat 1:21-23
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Words of the Ministry:
This week we would be considering the theme “Emmanuel”, we hope to emphasize on God consciousness as we look through scriptures to see the promises of God of being with us and the benefits it affords. Today’s reading gives us an insight into the reason Jesus came as the purpose and destiny of a thing is closely knitted to its name. The bible said the son of God would be called Emmanuel meaning God is with us. God cohabiting with man is not a new subject that started in the Gospel as we can see its seed in Genesis when Adam was created before the fall, God severally visited him, although it was a visit, God wanted to be with him always, this we see fulfilled in the new covenant.
The first human to actually enjoy this privilege in the new testament was Mary the mother of Jesus Christ who recieved a message from the angel Gabriel that she was to be the mother of the messiah, the angel saluted her saying she was blessed and highly favoured. We see a similar salutation when Elisabeth the cousin of Mary also saw her, she too said she was blessed and highly favored. (Luk 1:41-42). The first thing we see with a person with whom God is with from this account is that he or she is blessed and a blessing. One can only imagine the unlimited benefit of having the almighty God with us.
As a believer in Christ, can you attest to the blessedness of God with you, are you having the same experiences in your home, business or health. Do those around you call you blessed, or do you see the bible as a book written to psychologically motivate you? What Adam lost we have again recovered in Christ.
