Theme: Divine Encounter (5)

Memory Verse: Gal 2:20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Topic:  Sources of Divine Encounter

Today’s Reading:

1Ki 17:13-13

13  And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14  For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

15  And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16  And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

Words of the Ministry:

We have seen both old and New Testament examples of persons that enjoyed divine encounter which we defined as God’s supernatural intervention in a person’s situation breaking all limitations and protocols. Today I intend to look at the sources of encounter. We are to consider the means through which encounters happen to enable us to maximize the opportunities or such encounters around us.

From today’s reading (please read 1 Kings 17.8-16), we see a widow of Zarephath who was hopeless and at the point of giving up. The background to the story was that there was an intense famine in the land, the widow being poor was not only poor but hopeless, she had made up her mind to eat and die but God had a different plan for her. The account show that God sent his messenger who was a human being to her to take her out of her pain, God told Elijah to visit her that he had commanded her to feed him, surprisingly we do not see the woman confirm the message but luckily for her, she honored the man of God and believed and that changed her life forever, while others were complaining, she and her son had enough to eat and drink, so the first source of encounters we see here is man, it could a man of God, acquittance or a stranger, our act of kindness and honor could open doors for us.

Another source of encounters are angels, many have received testimonies by having encounter with angel while in a vision or real life, there are also instances where when entertained angels unknowingly and that changed their story. The story of Abraham and the 3 guest in genesis 18 is a typical example, Jacob wrestling with an angel is another great example. Others too like Peter while in Prison (Act 12.5-7), Daniel in the Lion’s Den, Mary the mother of Jesus is another classic example.

Lastly, Encounter comes directly from God, by this we mean his Spirit when we get saved. We receive the light of the gospel through the encounter we have with the Holy Spirit.  This is the greatest encounter that brings us into the kingdom of God, it changes our lineage from Man to God and makes us God’s dwelling place. Following this is a power encounter when we receive the Holy Spirit power upon us. That gets us ready to proclaim God’s goodness and testimonies. Some have encounter with the Holy Spirit and enjoy supernatural healing miracles and deliverances, others testify of divine provision. In all the above mentioned, we can conclude that God creates opportunities for encounters through men, through angels and lastly by his spirit. We must therefore live consciously not to miss such opportunities. May the Lord grant us light, Shalom.
