Theme: Divine Encounter (4)

Memory Verse: Gal 2:20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Topic:  Divine Encounter in the New Testament

Today’s Reading:

Luk 5:4  Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

Luk 5:5  And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

Luk 5:6  And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

Luk 5:7  And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

Words of the Ministry:

I would be considering a New Testament example of divine encounter by highlighting an event that happened in the life of Peter the fisherman who later became an Apostle of Jesus Christ. The story of Peter’s supernatural encounter is captured in Luke 5.1-11, Jesus during one of his ministrations had reasons to borrow Peter’s ship because of the crowd that came listening to him. It was like any other day to Peter, he had tried all he learnt but had no catch that day so he decided like any other person In the crowd to hear Jesus out, he never knew that day was the day his life would experience a supernatural turn around.

After the sermon, Jesus a carpenters son asked a professional fisher man to launch into the deep for a catch, Peter initially hesitated stating he had done enough already for the day but he later obeyed and the result was a net breaking testimony that changed not only his business but his life. That day Peter met the Lord, the event changed his destiny from being a fisherman to a fisher of men. Peter obeyed a simple instruction from the God-man and his life never remained the same.

The case of peter is quite instructive, we can see the simplicity at which he obeyed the Lord, many today exalt their experience and tradition above God’s word, they remain bound because they don’t want to renew their minds (Rom 12.2), We again see that Peter was willing to give what he had to the service of the Lord not because he was expecting anything in return, many persons would have transferred the aggression of their day to the Lord instead, they would have been murmuring. Little wonder they miss their divine encounters. Saints, our little kindness could be the key to our expected encounter, I like to close with Heb 13:2  Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.  May the Lord grant us light, Shalom!
