12  Then the people said to Samuel, “Who were the ones asking, ‘Will Saul reign over us?’ Hand over those men so we may execute them!”

13  But Saul said, “No one will be killed on this day. For today the LORD has given Israel a victory!”

Words of the Ministry:

Yesterday we saw some of the outstanding qualities in the life of Saul. We did emphasize that Saul wasn’t just chosen but that he had some of the leadership qualities God needed. Many today want God to use them as leaders and increase their level of influence but they overlook character and righteous living. I like to continue with the qualities that stood Saul who was from the last tribe and the least clan out.

As we read chapter 10 and 11 we notice a few more qualities in the life of Saul:

6. In 1 Sam 10.20-24, the account said, Samuel instructed that a lot be cast and the tribe of Benjamin was chosen, the family of Saul and eventually Saul was picked. Saul despite knowing ahead went to hide himself. Again, we see a man not given to outward show, he chose to be in the background, he wasn’t after position and power, little wonder Giod chose him.

7. Following his anointing as king, in 1 Sam 10.27, the account says some wicked men despised him as king, they never wanted him to rule over them but Saul didn’t react despite having the power to kill them. We can see that Saul was long suffering.

8. In Chapter 11.1-7, we see Saul standing up to the occasion to help those in need when a particular clan were threatened by the Amorites, Saul rallied the whole tribe of Israel to come to their defense. We see Saul having the zeal for those in distress and need.

9. in Chapter 11.11, He was a leader by example as the first battle against the Amorites, Saul himself partook of it, He didn’t just give instructions. He went into the battle showing others what a true leader should be, he was willing to die to save his followers.

10.  Forgiveness is another outstanding quality in the life of Saul, after being anointed and winning a battle which made the people love him more and would overlook his errors, another opportunity came for him to avenge those that despised him, but Saul Said no, the people clamored that he should deal with his opposition but Saul declined (1 Sam 11.12-13) rather Saul gave the glory to God.

Saints, as we consider the characters of Saul, one would wonder how he fell, how he ended as an enemy of God. Join us within the week as we explore the steps Saul took that turned him from being the choice of God to an enemy of God. May the Lord grant us light
