Today’s Reading: 1Sa 8:19-22

19  But the people refused to heed Samuel’s warning. Instead they said, “No! There will be a king over us!

20  We will be like all the other nations. Our king will judge us and lead us and fight our battles.”

8:21  So Samuel listened to everything the people said and then reported it to the LORD.

22  The LORD said to Samuel, “Do as they say and install a king over them.” Then Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Each of you go back to his own city.”

Words of the Ministry:

This week we would be considering lessons we can learn from the Life of a certain man called Saul. We trust God that through his life, we would learn from some of the beautiful qualities he had and also learn to avoid the mistakes he made. Saul was the first king of Israel; he was God’s first anointed King after the last Judge Samuel. The Children of Israel severally complained about their not having a king like the nations around them. It became so obvious that God had to intervene. As we read 1 Samuel 8, we see how the children of Israel murmured against God’s rule and God’s promised to give them a king after their heart.

The account of Saul is a very sorrowful one as we would be seeing within the week, although Saul never applied to be King, God chose him for certain qualities he had, those qualities, we would be considering within the week. Saul ruled as king for about 40 years but he ended up sinning against God and his end was sorrowful and sinful. Looking back at the life of Saul, today’s Christians can learn a lot from him as we explore the good qualities that made God choose him, among several thousands, how he ruled faithfully, things he did against God and how God eventually rejected him.

Dear saints, I like us to know that stories we read in the Old Testament are for our examples and God intends to guide us through such lessons. Some are positive while others are negative, it is to ensure we don’t fall into the same temptation as they did.  Today we have the Holy Spirit living in us and guiding us, that should give us a supernatural advantage over the flesh and the devil, unfortunately, many believers don’t live conscious of the Holy Spirit thereby suffering a great ship wreck. Join us within the week as we consider the lessons from the life of Saul. May the Lord grant us light
