Today’s Reading: Ruth 2.10-12
10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
12 The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust
Words of the Ministry
We have been considering the theme Character and Destiny and we have learnt that although with God we have a glorious destiny, our character may make or mar that destiny. We saw two positive examples in previous lessons, the hospitality of Abraham that later led to the fulfilment of a 25 years promise and the chastity of Joseph that eventually made his dream of ruling over his brothers come to pass even after 30 years. Today, I like to look at another positive example, the woman Ruth who later became one of the two women mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus who weren’t Jews originally.
Ruth was a young widow from Moab who lost her Jewish husband alongside her sister Orpah, it is believed they were both princesses, the daughters of King Eglon of Moab. After the demise of their husbands, Ruth decided to journey with her mother-in-law Naomi and chose to serve her God while her sister Orpah stayed back in Moab. The account said Ruth was well behaved and loving despite being in a strange land. She honored and respected her mother-in-law so much that even those that previously hated her for being a Moabite or just because she was a widow began to see beyond her country of origin because of her charming Character. Ruth did not transfer her daily woes to her aged mother-in-law rather she did all she could to comfort her. Soon the new broke to Boaz who would later become her husband. Although Naomi wanted Boaz to marry Ruth and God must have also wanted her in the genealogy of Jesus but Ruth needed a positive attitude to enter her destiny, Imagine she had stayed back in Moab or has being a thorn in the flesh or her mother in law or maybe she became a harlot in Israel, her destiny would have been the opposite.
Saints, may believers have golden destinies, several prophecies have gone ahead of them but their attitude is bad, they can’t bear a little suffering. Once things don’t go their way, they nag, blame it on everybody around them, their outlook is bad, they frown and are willing to insult anyone at any time. Some give the excuse that it is their temperament, they hide under every psychological writing to support their character flaw. They bring shame and disgrace to the Church with their attitude. Many believers find solace in alcohol and drugs when under pressure, instead of praying, singing hymns or praises to God, they resort to murmuring and complain. Saints we need to realize that men see us and read us, the man or woman that should be a ladder to your destiny may just be observing your attitude. That delay in marriage, unemployment, near success syndrome, miscarriage, disfavor etc may just be caused by your attitude while under pressure. May the Lord grant us light.
