Words of the Ministry:
Today I would comment on what is most associated with giving and that is the giving of money and material possessions. It is a fact that all we own belongs to God (Psa 24.1) and we are stewards of his grace (1 Pet 4.10). As stewards God wants to entrust us with his resources but many fail in their accountability and the bible says he that is unfaithful in unholy mammon, who would give you the true riches (Luk 16.11-12). The matter of financial stewardship is very important and it is necessary we realize that we would give account of monies God has given to us, so as we spend, we must bear in mind that the money God has given us power to posses belongs to him. That is one of the reasons I don’t preach tithing as all we own under the new covenant belongs to God and we must not limit his right to 10 percent.
The act of giving is highly encouraged in the bible as the bible teaches God loves a cheerful giver. We see account of men that gave their way to financial abundance and supernatural intervention like Solomon, Widow of Zarephath, Tabitha, Obededom, Abraham etc some gave money while others gave their material possessions. We also see examples of men that gave and didn’t get material benefits recorded in scripture but their giving was noted with a possible reward in heaven, such examples include Mary Magdalene, Joseph of Arimathias, the widow that gave her last coin etc. The bible is also not silent about those that chose their material possessions over God. The story of the rich young ruler (Mar 10.17-27) suggests that he placed value on his earthly wealth and accomplishment over and above God, He choose to keep his wealth rather than lose all and follow the Lord.
Dear saints, we must learn to give as it is a way to overcome the love of this world and poverty as the bible teaches liberality leads to a harvest of divine provision. Jesus said a man’s life is not to be measured by the things he own (Luk 12.15), the measure of your stature should be by how much you have yielded to God and not how much money or earthly possessions you own. Many believers take offence when money is mentioned, it is an indication that you are still carnal, if you can’t part with paper that is external, how can you part with the self. The central message of Christianity is Love, there is no way we would practice love without giving. God gave that is why you are saved, we must also give ourselves and resources to save and encourage others. The bible said Jesus was rich yet became poor for our sakes. Our motivation for giving should be the love of God and not earthly harvest as we saw some examples of men that gave but their treasure is in heaven where is it is most safe. Let us learn to give as every true giving is a seed into eternity. May the Lord grant us light.
