Theme: Principle of sowing and reaping (4)
Memory Verse: Gen 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Topic: Our deeds as seeds
Today’s Reading:
Mat 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Rom 13:8-10
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Words of the Ministry:
The seed to the considered today is a universally known one, every religion of the world seems to agree with it, even atheists too acknowledge its reality. In certain quarters it is known as the Golden Rule or the law of give and take. In simple terms it means do to others what you want them to do unto you. Everybody both young and old, rich and poor, male or female wants to be treated well, they love to be respected, appreciated and celebrated but the question is how do you treat others, with your attitude towards your neighbor either Christian or non-Christian, what do you expect your harvest to be, have you ever seen a situation where someone plants yam and reaps oranges? This is a solemn call to introspection, ask yourself if truly you don’t deserve what you are going through?
When a young lady takes pleasure in dating married men or a young man married women, when a lecturer loves to take advantage of students, a market woman loves to cheat customers especially men believing they can’t tell the difference, a trader specialized in selling fake things, a pastor that tell lies on pulpit and arranges testimonies to boost his ego and increase church income, a carpenter that does poor quality furniture and covers it with good fabric, a maid that sleeps with her madam’s husband, a mechanic that lies to customers and a doctor that prescribes tests that are not needed just to increase the income of the hospital, a uniform man that harasses and take advantage of citizen, a politician that steal money meant for the people and many other ones that comes to your mind as you read. If the same scenario happens to you or your family how would you feel, the general law of life is, if you sow a seed, you would reap multiples of 30, 60 or hundred. In some cases the harvest may come ones and some other cases several time so be careful what you sow, Being a Christian won’t stop the harvest except you repent and do restitution where necessary.
Gossip, theft, not paying workers as at when due, using your office and uniform to intimidate and cover a crime etc, all would come to light in due season and you would reap your harvest. Today’s reading says it all, Jesus himself said you would reap what you sow, husbands that love to frustrate their wives and wives that do same would reap what they sow, Children that frustrate their parents would reap what they sow. The second reading encourages us to love with the love of God. That is what we should owe our neighbor. We should love them as we love ourselves, Just as you won’t want to be harmed, then harm no one, You want to be paid back money you loaned someone then pay back yours, you want to live a fulfilled and joyful life, do same to others and as we practice the golden rule, I believe we would live a perfect life. May the Lord grant us light.
