Words of the Ministry:
As we continue on the theme principle of sowing and reaping, the first seed we would be considering is the seed we sow with our tongues, that is our words. The matter of the words that we speak is a very crucial one. Many saints have introduced blessings and curses into their lives through their words, many have been favored and others rejected through their words. Some homes have been broken and others reconciled through their words, many have been saved from sin and others eternally dammed through their words. The psalmist in Psalm 19.14 said may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in the sight, he knowing the role the tongue plays in shaping our destinies through our words.
In the Old Testament, the principal means of transferring the blessing was through words, we see that in Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The tongue although without a bone may be the one of the most powerful parts in our body, no wonder it was placed and covered behind the teeth.
The same tongue many use to pray they also use to lie. The tongue is major shaper of destinies and what is sown would always come back and words when spoken can’t be recalled. We must never take the words we speak for granted. We must ensure we sow proper seeds with our tongues. In the Old Testament, we see God warning the Israelites not to make vows casually without fulfilling them as it may lead to God punishing them. That shows that God takes our words seriously and so should we.
The problem with many saints is that they allow the flesh rule them, their tongues are generally controlled by their emotions. When they feel happy, they sow good seeds with their words, when they are angry, sad, confused or feel defeated, they do otherwise. From our reading we can see that both death and life are in our tongue, some of the challenges many face today is as a result of their words, many lay curses on their spouse and children when angry, eventually that seed become a tree and they live with it, some even curse the works of their hand because of temporary challenges and immediate experience and eventually the weapon the set against themselves affects them. With the tongue we can see that the fruit we reap is not necessarily coming from God or Satan rather from the words we sow. From our reading, if a man can manage his tongue, he is indeed a perfect man, may we not be destroyed by our words, shalom.
