Topic: Dangers of Deception (A)
Today’s Reading:.
Gal 1:8 -9 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would continue our series on overcoming deception by considering the dangers of being deceived. We did see the reasons why many get easily deceived, the goal of the deceiver is not just to deceive you rather to achieve the same goal the devil always had in mind towards mankind especially the saints as recorded in Jhn 10.10a- “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy”, yes the goal of the devil is threefold based on the level of deception an individual is, it is to steal, kill and destroy. This he does using human agents as false preachers, friends, family members, visions, and angelic encounters. I like us to consider each of the steps the devil takes and the consequences:
Steal: Keep in mind he is a thief and as a thief he is wicked and brutal, a liar from the beginning and nothing he has is originally his. As a thief, whatever he comes for must be precious even when you don’t know it. We must therefore live conscious of the wiles of the devil. As a thief, the first thing he wants to steal is the seed of the word of God. When he achieves this, he ensures we are in doubt of the truth in scripture, he tries to replace it with is lies, giving us a counterfeit gospel atimes accompanied with signs and wonders. This goes a long way to shifting our devotion from God to man That could be likened to the parable in mat 13 of the seed planted by the road side, eventually it was eaten by the birds of the air. So the first danger is that we lose the blessedness of the truth. We run with a lie deceiving ourselves with activities.
A vast majority of those in this stage of deception would still look religious, they would remain active and committed to the activities of their church, they may even be church leaders or workers. Atimes the truth stolen may be a foundational revelation that leads to deliverance in certain areas of life, the devil comes painting a picture that you need to add something to Christ, do extra works and other some extra-biblical practices. The devil tries to pollute the conscience of the believer at this stage before he silences the conscience in the second stage. It is therefore necessary as an antidote to meditate on the word as this theft take place in the heart, our mind is indeed a battle ground, the seat of our personality and as Satan stole from Adam and Eve, he wants to steal from you using false teaching and replacing spirituality with activities.
