Words of the Ministry:

This week, we would be considering the theme “Appreciating Wilderness Experiences”, by wilderness experiences, we mean the several trails, persecution and temptations that arises at certain stages in our Christian walk. While many saints hate to have such experiences, it is undeniably consistent with the teachings of scripture (2 Thim 3.12, Mat 5.11-12) and a common experience of all true believers. The main difference could be our attitude towards such experiences. A persons could decide to pass through the wilderness experience learning the lessons and cumulatively becoming more like Christ through them or choose to compromise, bowing to the devil, taking the alternative route of instant short-lived solutions only to postpone the class to a later date or they may eventually lose their reward.

The bible severally assures us of God’s love for mankind and especially the saints (Psa 8.4, Jhn 3.16, Rom 5.8-9). For the saints we are his children and as Jesus was on earth so we are. Jesus was the first begotten son, he was perfect in life and sinless yet the father saw the need for him to spend some time in the wilderness (Mat 4.1), it was a period of loneliness, hunger and temptations. Despite being the sinless son of God, the 40 days fast and other experiences taught him obedience (Heb 5.8) thereby making him a worthy example. We must therefore realize that it is the love of God that makes God lead us into the wilderness, that is to chiefly teach us the lessons of obedience and an eventual conformity into the image and likeness of Christ. The saints are therefore expected to carry their cross daily, living a life of faith one day at a time.

Our today’s reading makes it known that God is indeed able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we may ask or think according to the Holy Spirit within us but more importantly, God wants us to be matured (Rom 8.28-30) to know the love of God that is more than head knowledge rather know him in our being, He the Holy Spirit saturating our Spirit, Soul and Body until we become mature in him. That is an organic knowing that comes from growth and dealings. It is beyond bible reading or head knowledge, it comes as a result of several dealing, God dealing with us and we dealing with him and the chief means is through the wilderness experiences.
