Memory Verse for the week: Rom 8.16

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Today’s Reading: 1Pe 2:1-3

1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

2  As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

3  If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

Words of the Ministry

Today, we would be considering another reason to assure us of our salvation and that is our desire for the sincere milk of God’s word. Like our natural life, when a child is born, he or she desires food and in this case milk and water. The desire for food is a natural instinct and need in the life of every new born and so it is with a newly saved. When a man is saved, he desires to know more about the new found savior, he wants to learn about the kingdom demands and life style, he wants to do everything to please God. Such persons would always be quick to ask the question, “is it a sin to do this or that”, he would want to have a copy of the bible and spend some time reading even if he doesn’t understand the content.

Peter writing in 1 Peter 2.1-3 to the newly saved said they should lay aside their old life which was full of malice, hypocrisies, envy and evil speaking. That is a mirror of what many of us were, we enjoyed malice and slander, gossip and jesting but now that we are saved, our taste bud has been improved upon, even when we fall into sin of any of the aforementioned, we feel the rebuke of the holy spirit, it now becomes an unnatural craving, as we speak behind others, our conscience rebukes us. Peter went on telling the saints to desire the sincere milk, the milk of truth, the word of Christ which is truth and worthy of growing us into the nature of Christ. We therefore discover that our taste bud changes through salvation, our encounter with God gives us a desire for the word of God which is new every day.

Dear saints, you must have noticed your desire for the word of God, your ability to listen to a sermon over a lengthy period of time. Your desire to know the position of the bible as it relates to your marriage, business, interaction with others etc. All of those desires are indications that Christ lives in you, you are not alone, Christ lives in your Spirit (Gal 2.20) and his desires are gradually becoming your desire, that is the meaning of being joined to the lord and becoming one with him (1 Cor 6.16-17). We must celebrate this change, it is not natural and it is an assurance that you are saved, hallelujah for our changed taste bud and desire for the sincere spiritual milk, amen. May the Lord grant us light.
