Today’s Reading: John 14:12-15
12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. NKJV
1 Cor 2:9-10
9 But as it is written:”Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we saw Jesus during his earthly ministry wielding much power and authority over demons and unclean Spirit, we saw his power over nature and sicknesses, he even cursed a fig tree, calmed the storm, at a certain time he also walked on water. We learnt that Jesus did all that through Yahweh Sabaoth as he said in his words that by himself he can do nothing except what his father reveals to him. In other words, what we saw in the gospel being done by Jesus was what his father was doing. With Jesus we see a man who had one mind with God. Just before Jesus’ crucifixion, he told his disciples he had overcome the world (Jhn 16.33) and in Mat 28.18, he said all authority has been given him. In other words, what Adam lost, Jesus has regained for all those who believe. That brings us to today’s lesson, greater works than these.
Jesus in the gospel said his father is working until now (Jhn 5.17), Yahweh Sabaoth is working using human vessels until now, he expects us to carry out his work in the midst of men, doing greater things bringing glory to God. Reflecting on what Jesus said following his pattern, he said what his father does, he does, it therefore means for us to cooperate with God’s ministry of the day, it must be revealed to us what the father is doing and that is what the Holy Spirit does. In Jhn 14.26, the Holly Spirit is said to teach us all things, this Holy Spirit is the one that searches the deep things of God and brings it to bears, things that eyes have not seen nor ear heard are revealed to us so that we too like Jesus can do greater works. Jesus’ promise of grater works is therefore based on the extent to which we receive revelations from the Holy Spirit either written or instant.
What a contrast between the old and new covenant, in the old covenant, God said his thoughts are not man’s thought just like heaven is far away from the earth (Isi 55.8), but in the new covenant, the Holy Spirit reveal the thought of God to the saints so much that the bible says we have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2.16), we can therefore say we have the thought of God as the Holy Spirit reveals it to us. So when you have such promptings to heal the sick, raise the dead or preach the Gospel, the promptings that tells you with Christ in you, you have overcome the power of darkness and failure, the promptings that tellsyou to make a declaration against the works of darkness and preach the gospel, that promptings that tell you to invest wisely and boldly in a new venture is indeed the mind God, do this and see God glorified through you.
