9 So Hannah arose after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the tabernacle of the Lord. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish. 11 Then she made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.”

Words of the Ministry:

This week we would be looking at one of the several names of Jehovah called Jehovah Sabaoth meaning the Lord of host. During our learning, we would be seeing how God initiates battles and how the saints enforce the battle on earth, we would be seeing the implication of we as his battle axe. I would also look at God’s original design of the earth realm organogram, the distribution of authority and dominion as originally designed by God.

Yahweh or Jehovah which the Latinization of the Hebrew word Yahweh is a personal name of God and the Lord. We see it combined with some words to show the personality of who God is. For instance, Jehovah Jireh (the Lord my Provider), Jehovah Nissi (the Lord my banner), Jehovah Rohi (the lord my shepherd), Jehovah Rapha (the lord that heals) etc. Today we are looking at one of his names called Jehovah Sabaoth.

Jehovah Sabaoth as one of God’s names in the Bible occurs more than 270 times in the Old Testament. It combines God’s personal name, Jehovah (Yahweh), with the Hebrew word, sabaoth, meaning “host” or “multitude.” So Jehovah Sabaoth means “The Lord of Hosts.” The Lord of the armies. Sabaoth has a military connotation, used in reference to A group of fighting men or an army (1 Samuel 17:45; Isaiah 13:4). Sometimes sabaoth refers to the hosts of heaven (Psalm 148:2; 1 Kings 22:19, Dan 7.10), Sabaoth also is used to describe the innumerable stars in the night sky (Psalm 33:6; 103:20, 21).

The important thing about this name for God is that whether it is armies, angels, or stars, Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts, rules over all things both on earth and in heaven. So calling God this name is saying you were a deliverer in time past just as you are today, come be my deliverer in this time of need. Join us this week as we see the implication of the name Jehovah Sabaoth, how we can engage it and what we must expect as we engage it. Shalom.
