Words of the Ministry
Today we come to another Characteristics of the kingdom people, the subject of mercy. Every genuinely saved knows the importance of mercy because without mercy, we would not have found the grace of salvation. This may sound like the golden rule that states do unto others what you want them to do to you but it goes beyond that as believers are expected to have mercy even on their enemy. By showing mercy, we are expressing our thirst after righteousness, we become imitators of God. It is a way of saying we appreciate what the Lord has done.
When we realize that all we are in Christ is as a result of his mercy, it makes us humble, and we see reasons to do same to others. As we hunger and thirst after righteousness, we must be strict with ourselves, we must not be loose but our relationship with others is not same, we must be merciful not being legalistic, we must make room for mistakes and error and we should be willing to help them, by this we obtain mercy from God too as our efforts is limited in strength and only his mercy enables us.
Many believers are judgmental, because they have found grace in a particular area of life, you condemn every other person assuming they can never overcome. Some are in a position where they could be lenient without sinning instead of extending mercy to their neighbors, they rather want to humiliate them, that is contrary to the Christian life, we must bear others and their weaknesses, we must be full of not only sympathy but empathy, we are the light the world needs to see. The demand for mercy is just like forgiveness, if you don’t have mercy on others, God would not have mercy on you.
