Words of the Ministry:

This week we would labor on the book of Ruth which happens to be the first of only two books named after women in the bible and the second being Esther. Another striking importance Is that Ruth is one of the women named in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Many people who are familiar with genealogical naming in the bible would agree that women are rarely named. So, we can say Ruth was indeed a wonderful character. To have a good grasp of the week’s lesson, I like to admonish the reader to read the book of Ruth chapter 1-4. In the week, we would be considering some life lessons from the life of Ruth and the lesson would climax by looking at the similitude of Ruth’s marriage to Boaz as a type of our marriage to Christ.

The book of Ruth is quite outstanding in that it didn’t record any victories in war nor miracles like other books in the Old Testament, but its life benefits touch our inner man as her life is applicable to many of our experiences. Ruth was a Moabites, being a Moabite naturally meant she was from a nation that hated God, but her choices brought her under the covenant of Abraham, and she was eventually named with the few women in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. The account said a certain woman called Naomi and her husband Elimelech with their two sons moved from Canaan to Moab because of famine ravaging Bethlehem. The two sons of Naomi married Moabites names Ruth and Orpah, unfortunately after some years Elimelech died leaving Naomi a widow and soon after then the two sons of Naomi also died leaving Orpah and Ruth widows like Naomi.

This made Naomi consider leaving for Canaan, she then advised her daughter in-laws to return to their parent, but Ruth refused saying “16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.” Ruth 1:16-18, NIV. This statement was the beginning of what would later bring Ruth into the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Her choice that day later made her marry Boaz. Saints Ruth marrying one of the sons of Naomi and willingly serving their God is a type of us entering the covenant of marriage with the Lord. A lot happens, some happen so suddenly and could be unexplainable but as we would see, holding on despite our seeming impossible challenges always pays off and just like Ruth entered the list of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, so would our patience in trial and commitment despite suffering grant us a crown of Life. Join us within the week as we explore the wonderful riches in the story of Ruth and don’t forget to join us next week Sunday for our once a month Peniel Encounter meeting. Christ is our Life.
