18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him..
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday, we saw God’s desire for a proper home and how the home affects the general society. We learnt that the prevailing attitude of families in a society would eventually translate to being the general attitude. Today we would start considering some practical steps towards addressing challenges confronting our homes especially as Christians. We would start by considering the first most important factor that affects our home and that is being an example. As we read through the Old and New Testament, we see that men that turned their age for God and whose family stood with God started out by being an example to their wives and children. So much impact could be made by being before teaching. This is also why gospel preaching and Church discipleship seems difficult in this age as a lot of effort is placed on instructional material than living the life.
When we read the account of men like Abraham, Noah and Philip whose four daughters were virgins and prophetesses, we would not be surprised as their families were a reflection of their lifestyle. Today many parents are opposite of what they preach. When a father that never reads before his children, not even a newspaper or bible instructs the children to go read their books at every instance they play, the only impression he gives the children is that book reading is a tantamount to punishment. When a man fights his wife or gets provoked at every instance, he can’t teach forbearance and love to his children. We see a rising number of broken homes today because the new couples are products of bad parentage and true to what many would say, your spouse would eventually be like his father or mother in future because they were his or her role model.
Dear saints, before you start passing blames on the devil, the school or even the church, ask yourself, are you a proper example of a wife and mother, do you pray your son marries a woman like you, as a father do you honestly pray another man treats your daughter the way you treat your wife and the ladies under your influence, those you take advantage of because of your position or little assistance you render towards them. That dependent in your home, if honestly asked, can he or she call you a saint in Christ. The way you talk down on family and friends in the Prescence of your children, do you believe you are raising them to honor people? If truly you want to rest tomorrow, you must be an example today. Abraham was blessed with Isaac because God saw that he would raise his family to fear God just as he did. How about you, could that be the reason for the delay you experience? May the Lord grant us light.
