Words of the Ministry:
Today we come to the pattern of prayer Jesus taught his disciples. He taught them saying they should pray that the Kingdom of God should come which meant the will of God be done on earth as it is done in heaven. Keeping in mind that our theme for the week is seeking the kingdom, we may therefore say to seek the kingdom is to ensure the will of God as it is done in heaven is also being done on earth. As Jesus taught his disciples how to approach God for their needs he said he that ask receives, he that seeks finds and he that knocks the door is opened (Mat 7.7) from the above we see that to ask is different from to seek. While on the surface many may ask God for something, to seek requires we take extra steps to find out, discover, learn about and persist. For the kingdom of God to come and especially in today’s contest for the will as its done in heaven be done on earth, we must therefore do beyond just asking God for it.
In Matt 16:19-20 it reads “9 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.” NASU, I believe this is a better rendition of the verse, whatever we bound on earth shall have been bound in heaven, this follows the flow, thy will be done on earth as it is done in heaven. How do we make sure prayers, how do we know which will is already done in heaven? It only come through seeking the kingdom by the word and through prayers and fasting. The will of God is both written and instant as revealed to us by the Holy Spirit but this revelation only comes through seeking (Jer 29.13). That is the issues with many believers, they have not learnt how to seek the will of God. As a way of illustration, when a Christian brother reads by his stripes, you were healed (1 Pet 2.24), many get excited, discuss the verse and are not bothered even if it doesn’t come to pass in their lives. Many they don’t seek this will of divine health from the Lord. By seeking I mean holding God by his word, it may require persistent prayers seeking God’s face and asking why it is not being fulfilled in their lives, that is what it means to seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness.
Saints, majority of us are too lazy concerning the economy of God, we don’t place priority on the kingdom and his righteousness (ways), we are more bothered about the many other things which are but shadows. Imagine a scenario where a young male graduates is unemployed for a few years, he begins to consider what else he could do to increase his chances of employment, he attends seminars, get additional degrees, learn a skill and work on his intra-personal skills, the example I cited is what it means to seek things of this world, people go the extra mile to see that what appears abnormal according to societal norms are addressed but they care less about the will of the kingdom, they don’t seek it by getting knowledge, searching the scripture, praying, seeking counsel etc concerning their poverty, barrenness, unemployment, sickness, delayed marriage, family crises, broken home, gifts of the spirit, holy living etc. It brings God greater joy when we seek his will which is of good and not of evil than we being an object of pity and ridicule in the world. May the Lord grant us light.
