Life Capsule for Today 28 January, 2024
Theme: Seeking the kingdom of God (1)
Topic: God cares about our needs
Memory Verse: Matt 6:33-34
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. NKJV
Today’s Reading: Matt 6:25-27
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
This week we would be considering the implication of the statement to seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness. We would also be looking at how to seek it. Reading through the gospel we would severally see the Lord Jesus teaching on the Kingdom. He centered his message on the kingdom of God and it we could narrow down what Christ preached in one word we could say the kingdom because be it grace, faith, love or holiness, it all functions in God kingdom. The passage before us in particular is about the several reasons to worry. Jesus commenting on the natural needs of man and our attitude of complaining and worry over what we would eat, drink or wear he said to the disciples and by extension us that we should rather seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness as all the aforementioned needs would be added by God himself.
As we walk through life and get older it seems our worry increases. We begin to learn how to depend on our natural instinct to survive, we like to have every situation under our control. Many do not know that it is as a result of the fall. While the bible encourages us to be responsible, for instance it says a man that doesn’t provide for his home is worse than an infidel (1 Thim 5.8) and whoever does not work should not eat (2 Thes 3.10), the fundamental principle is, does this need lead to worry or trust, does it introduce doubt or faith? Do we rely on our ability to change the situation or trust God that he would make a way using our obedience and efforts?
Jesus says seeks ye first the kingdom and others things would be added. Isn’t other things the reason many don’t even seek the kingdom. Are these needs the reason many seem to seek the kingdom? What we don’t realize is that for believers, all we can have is in the kingdom, the more we seek the kingdom, the more we enjoy our provision because we are kingdom ambassador. Jesus is not in any way saying we shouldn’t trust God or work towards our daily needs as he taught his disciples when praying to ask God for their daily bread (Mat 6.11) but what the Lord is saying is, what is your pursuit, what is your goal, what gets you excited, why are you worried, what influences your emotion, is it that need or the kingdom of God? Please join us tomorrow as we consider the kingdom of God and what it means to seek it.
