 Words of the Ministry

Today we come to the 7th lesson on financial prosperity and stewardship, In the course of the week, we have learnt that it’s God will for us to be financially blessed, we learnt it’s not exclusively God’s doing, that financial prosperity depends on you and it requires spiritual warfare. It is affected by our character and we must also learn to give, yesterday we learnt that even our finances are used by God to build our Christian life as our organic salvation is greatly influenced by what we love and put our trust in. Today we would be looking at another key point in the subject of financial prosperity which is that everything including our financial abundance is subject to time.

Eccl 3:11 says “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end”, the subject of God’s time is another area many believers get it wrong, on the one hand some don’t do their part concerning their destinies which in this case I would limit to financial prosperity. They follow the bang wagon statement saying, God’s time is the best. They leave everything to God and are not ready to take responsibility, that is irresponsible Christianity. On the other, some are so in a hurry to get what they want, they feel if God doesn’t do it now, it would be too late. What many fail to realize is that what God does is God’s will and even God’s will is subject to God’s time. Christians must realize we can’t manipulate God and anything we seem to get before its time would lead to a life of regret. A typical example is Abraham, God made him a promise but because of the pressure from his wife he raised a son Ishmeal and today we can see the consequence of that.

The Christian life is a lifelong process of pruning. God works on our being continuously using everything available, some we love and some we don’t, some we may understand and others we may never understand, if a pregnant woman want to have a proper child she must wait her due period of nine months, if she says she is in a hurry and wants the child in 3 months, she would regret her action. An infant too must learn to crawl before standing, walking and running. So is all the promises of God, after we have done our part, prayed, worked hard, improved on our social skills etc we must also realize that time is king. As much as God wanted to save the human race he still had to wait for 4000 years before Jesus was born, Jesus too had to live for 30 years before he began his ministry. Time builds patience, it helps our endurance, it leads to long suffering etc, all the aforementioned are the fruits of the Spirit (Gal 5.22-23), we don’t cultivate them by only bible reading, it becomes a part of us through our day to day encounters.

Jer 29:11 says For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end and 2 Peter 3:9 says The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. KJV. When we juxtapose both verses we come to the conclusion that God is in control and what he said he would do he would after we have played our roles. Our little patience is also for further character formation.  Today when we read the story of Abraham we get encouraged, we admire the fact that he remained faithful and was eventually blessed by God, so does God wants our lives to be a blessing and challenge to other believers, we are living epistles, when men read our lives, they should see a man that has added patience to virtue and self-control. May the Lord grant us light. Join us today for prayer gym by 7am to 9am.
