Words of the Ministry
We have been considering the subject of financial prosperity and stewardship from different angles this week, we did learn that financial prosperity is God’s will and that it depends on us, we further emphasized that it doesn’t just occur, though it’s God’s will, it requires intensive prayers and hardwork. Today we intend to look at another factor that affects the finances of many believers and that is the subject of character. Many overlook character but place emphasis on some of the aforementioned and yet to be highlighted points and as a result they fail. Character is a major determinant of our height in life, it affects our relationships be it marriage, business or casual friendship and as a result, it affects our finances as even business success and employment depends on relationship to strive.
When an individual suffers from a bankrupt character and a personality disorder, such persons may not reach the financial height God has destined him or her because financial prosperity doesn’t just answer to prayer and hard work, our day to day interaction with people counts alot, such persons could be our boss, colleague, juniors, customers or clients. The way we relate with them goes a long way to determine if they would do any financial dealings with us in future. A vast majority of Christian have terrible character and its affecting all areas of their lives, many homes are broken today because either spouse have a terrible attitude, little wonder the bible says we should train a child the way he should go (Pro 22.6), that is an emphasis on character formation. Imagine a school teacher managing children but having a terrible anger problem, soon she would lose all her pupils and eventually would be sacked, that would lead to poverty and unemployment. Such persons might blame the devil or sow more seeds but it would continually fail because her character is her problem.
In a bid to make more profit and get rich quick, some believers cheat their clients, when discovered, they lose such clients and possible referral from such persons. When a Christian cannot be trusted with money, once you get a loan you don’t repay, you act as though you have forgotten, some cannot even say thank you, they have a sense of belonging and feel if you don’t some others would, that is their problem. Not the devil nor seed sowing. A man may even be skilled but his loose attitude toward the opposite sex can cause financial instability. Dear saints the subject of character cannot be exhausted as in my little opinion, I believe it’s a major reason for poverty and financial instability in today’s church, little or no emphasis is placed on it, we talk often on believing the prophetic word, sowing, miracle money, kingdom investment etc. but no emphasis on character, from our memory verse we see the disciples of the Pharisees and Herodians, despite hating Jesus had a good report of him, they said concerning his character, we know you are true and you teach the truth, when you keep back some money whenever you do a transaction or you resort to insult anytime a client complains or return a defective item, you are writing a note to poverty, character is king, work on your character.
