Today’s Reading: Prov 22:6
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
This week we would be looking at a bible character called Daniel, we intend to draw some life lessons from his story, we trust that the Lord would through the life of this Old Testament saint draw some new light in our lives that would affect our daily living. Many theologians’ belief that Daniel was a teenager when he was taken captive with other Jews in Babylon during the days of Nebuchadnezzar (Dan 1.)
We see in Daniel an example of a child who was properly brought up and when grown never departed from training. The Account said Daniel was among those selected by the king’s official for special feeding and treatment, we notice Daniel wasn’t necessarily from a poor background as many suggest as the account said the king chose from the royal and noble family (Dan 1.3). We can immediately notice that Daniel being well behaved and Godly as we would be seeing wasn’t because his parents were poor but his parent’s despite being rich inculcated some disciple in their son, this they did, not because they expected him to be a slave in future but because they realized parenting is beyond money, it requires time and Godly disciple unlike many saints that poorly train their children because of their wealth.
The king’s servant was instructed to feed Daniel and other Israelites with a portion of the Kings meal for 3 years to improve on their physical appearance, but Daniel and his 3 friends refused the meal stating that they cannot eat defiled food sacrificed to idols, they chose to rather eat vegetables than to eat food sacrificed to idols. We would notice that his parents weren’t there to guide him neither any man monitoring him, but the fear of God he leant while growing from his parents was his guide in a foreign land.
Many parents are sorrowful today because they missed the opportunity God gave them to groom their children the right way. They never had the time nor saw the need and now that the children have gained some little freedom in a foreign land like the university, boarding school or in marriage, they become ruthless, bringing shame to the family and the Church. Such parents felt all they needed was more money, they thought food, drink and clothes is all they owed their children We see in the Life of Daniel and his 3 friends the product of parental guidance and training, many prayer points parents do for their teenage children is because of their failure while the children were younger. The bible is particular about upbringing, if you spear the rod today because you don’t want the child to cry, you may be the one crying tomorrow when the child goes wild.
Join us through the week as we look at the life of a man who knew God from a young age and enjoyed divine favor, insight and revelation, a man who saw unimaginable miracles and grew even among enemies without fighting a war. Topic: Daniel was a man who knew the secret place
Today’s Reading: Prov 9:10
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday, we began a study on the man of God Daniel and we learnt that despite being in a foreign land, Daniel did not compromise his love for his God by eating the Kings meal. He rather chose to eat vegetables like the ordinary citizens. We did emphasize that what Daniel did was an off shoot of the home training he got from his parents, we said parents must have time for their children as when it comes to proper parenting, money doesn’t answer everything. Again we saw how Daniel ate vegetables in place of the rich meal the king had to offer, he chose vegetable because the meal was sacrificed to idols.
Many don’t mind the meat sacrificed to idols once it meets their need. The implication is that many are ready to go the way of the world to satisfy their needs rather than wait on God. They are ready to cheat, kill destroy, lie, change figures to meet their desires. Daniel chose suffering with a pure conscience over polluted wealth with a guilty conscience. Today as we read Dan 1.18-2, we see a distinction between Daniel and his three friends and the other children. The account said they were 10 times smarter than the others, and the reason is not farfetched, it was because they had the fear of God. Many today cut corners, try to get rich quick at the detriment of their relationship with God only to realize they were the greatest fool and eventually end in hell, that shows regardless of what they got from Satan, it was a bad bargain.
As we read chapter 2, we see another incidence that made him stand out. The account said the King had a nightmare and he called on all his magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, sorcerers etc to not just come interpret the dream as their tradition was, but to also tell him his dream, this sounded odd to all of them as they believed no man could do that, the king got angry and asked that they should all be killed. Eventually Daniel was informed, he sought some more time from the king and entered his secret place, the bible records he and his 3 friends asked the Lord and the Lord showed him the dream of the king and its interpretation. That is to further prove the verse that says the secret things belong to God and he show it to those that fear him (Deut 29.29, Ps 25.14). This singular event promoted Daniel above his peers and brought glory to God and spared the life of many.
Many struggle with life today, they wonder what the way out of their situation could be? Saints we must like Daniel be a man that fears the Lord to get Godly wisdom to make the right decision, not only that we must spend time in the secret place with him to know the secret and solutions to challenges around us as problem solving is a key to advancement in life. Why not take advantage of the all-knowing Holy Spirit that abides in you, that bible says he would teach you all thing, all things mean all things (Jhn 14.26), amen.

Topic: Daniels allegiance was unto God alone
Today’s Reading: Ps 75:6
6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would be considering Daniel Chapter 4 and chapter 5, still on the life of Daniel, we started by looking at his upbringing stating he didn’t deviate from the fear of God he learnt from home despite being independent in a foreign land. We did say the way we train our children today would affect their lives tomorrow. Yesterday we saw in Daniel a supernatural wisdom that made him outstanding, the account said he know the secret of Kings and could interpret complex riddles and visions chiefly because he aligned himself with his God and his God revealed the deep things of darkness to him. We emphasized the need to have intimacy with God as through that God reveals solution of nations and solutions to problems which in turn leads to supernatural discovery and breakthrough.
Today we would be seeing another quality in the man of God Daniel, he was a man whose allegiance was to God alone, he fearlessly stated the mind of God without minding whose horse is gored. Daniel in Chapter 4 was invited by Nebuchadnezzar his human benefactor who was said to be the king of the earth as his influence spread far and wide. We would recall that the King Nebuchadnezzar had previously celebrated and rewarded him in Chapter 2, but in Chapter 4, The king had a dream through which God was warning him of an impending judgement if he doesn’t repent, Here we see Daniel in a dilemma, if he said the mind of God he could lose face with the king and if such happens he could be demoted or killed seeing the king is not God fearing but Daniel chose to tell the king the exact meaning of the dream warn=ing him of an impending danger which later occurred, the king was reduced to an animal that walked among the wild beasts but after a season, he was forgiven and restored.
A similar event occurred in the days of the Belshazzar, the son of the king who inherited the throne from his father Nebuchadnezzar, he was foolish to have used vessels dedicated to Jehovah taken out of the temple in the days of his father, he drank with them and gave same to his wives and concubines while they praised their gods, the account said a finger wrote on the wall the judgement of God, the message troubled him as no one could read and interpret it, they again called on Daniel who interpreted the message fearlessly not minding the opinion of the king, many would have seen it as an occasion to bond with the king who didn’t know him before then, they would have tried to alter the message and find a way around the judgement, Daniel wasn’t bothered about his influence or relationship with men in power rather he spoke the mind of God and God still rewarded him bountifully and neither did his word fall to the ground.
Today, many saints are seeking promotion and recognition from men, they are ready to lower the standard of the gospel just to keep a politician, business tycoon or even a fraudster in their Churches. A good number of believers would play along just to keep their friendship intact with an unbeliever. It is a thing of shame that you don’t know your God as promotion comes only from him. How much longer would you compromise, remain in that dirty and ungodly relationship just because you want to hold your position in the society, office or family, repent before it’s too late, Shalom.

Topic: Daniels a man of many afflictions
Today’s Reading: Ps 34:19
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would be considering the 6th chapter in the book of Daniel. After the king Belshazzar was overthrown, King Darius took over, the account said Darius chose 120 princes to oversee the affairs of the kingdom and three presidents to oversee the princes, among the presidents, Daniel was again preferred above the other two. We see again that Daniel kept prospering even as a foreigner not because he was able to lobby his ways or compromise his stand rather because he found favor with his God and lived a life of integrity and excellence.
Today we would be considering one of the many challenges a man of integrity faces. Despite being righteous and diligent in his duties, Daniel was envied by his colleagues, they planned to end his carrier in the land of Babylon and when they could not find an occasion against him, they tried to afflict him through his commitment to the almighty God. The bible teaches that many are the afflictions of the righteous but God delivers from all, many saints don’t want to suffer persecution, they wonder why they are being persecuted despite being godly, the bible is clear concerning this 2 Tim 3:12 “12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Persecution is part of the process and we must be ready for it.
Daniel was persecuted for his righteousness, his enemies plotted a decree that anyone that prays to any other god outside the statue of the king must be cast into the lion’s den. Knowing that Daniel was a man of prayer who would rather forgo every other thing but his prayer. On hearing this, Daniel went to his house, opened his windows as he previously did and prayed to God, when his adversaries saw him, they were happy to report to the king. The king was hesitant but they princes prevailed, eventually Daniel was cast into the lion’s den and the king did hope and pray his God would deliver him. At this point many would have suggested his God has failed, why didn’t his God stop the plot, why didn’t his God judge his enemies immediately, why couldn’t God command the king to reverse the process, so many why’s.
God permits many of us to go through the process just like Daniel did to glorify himself, today we know God as a God that delivers from the Den of lions only because Daniel was placed in the den of lions and came back alive. Many of us don’t allow God to fully glorify himself in our times of trials, we immediately consider compromise and by that stop the hand of God. Daniel was eventually delivered from the den of lions and his advertise died his death. The king revered his action, God was glorified over the earth. Imagine Daniel chose not to pray after the statue was erected, he may have lived in peace but the testimony won’t be complete, idolatry would have reigned and the glory belonging to God at that season may have been given through another man. Saints we must be ready to walk through the valley of the shadow of death, as he is with us, shalom.

Today’s Reading: Ps 25:14
The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

Words of the Ministry:
We have looked at several aspect of Daniels life, we saw how he chose a life of sacrifice even from his childhood, we traced that to his upbringing stating the importance of parental guidance, we also saw in Daniel his exceptional wisdom that stood him out among his peers, we saw his boldness and commitment to God. His prayer life and consistency to the worship of Jehovah even when he had become well placed in a foreign land, did not reduce his love for God, Daniel was a man after God’s heart, he was ready to die in the den of lions than to miss his regular prayer, indeed Daniel is a challenge to today’s church.
Today as we read Daniel chapter 7 and 8, we see another benefit Daniel enjoyed as he walked with God, the bible said God showed him visions and dreams of things which were about to come, some to happen in his days and others in future. Not only could Daniel interpret and recall the dreams of other concerning the happenings of their time, he also had insight into the future concerning the happens of future generations. What a blessing and privilege to live in close intimacy with God, the bible says in Amos 3:7 “7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets”, we saw that in the life of persons like Abraham, Elisha and Moses.
Saints, doesn’t it bother you that despite having the Holy Spirit which the bible says reveals secret things to us even the secret things of God (1 Cor 2.10-11), many things happen around you without you knowing? When last did God reveal things to you concerning your family, business, country, government or even yourself. The bible teaches, it’s the privilege of those that fear God to know secrets not known by many. Many scientific inventions and technological advancements are products of secrets as nothing is new under the sun, a man gets the secret and makes it known. I like us to make it a matter to ask God to reveal secrets that would guide our decisions in the coming days as it is a privilege of God’s children to know this thing. Daniel wasn’t the only Jew at Babylon but while others bothered themselves about the kingdom happenings and politics, he spent his time with God in the secret place and eventually came out with secrets that placed him ahead of others. Shall we spend some time asking God to reveal his secrets plans to us.

Topic: Daniel had a heart for his people
Today’s Reading:
Words of the Ministry:
Today we read chapter 9 of Daniel and would immediately notice the king of heart Daniel had. From this we can further see why God always answered his prayer. The account said Daniel understood by books that the captivity of Jerusalem as prophesied by Jeremiah was to last 70 years, seeing the time had approached and the children of Israel were still under captivity, Daniel decided to pray, seeking the face of God earnestly despite his comfort and position, angel Gabriel was then sent, not only to interpret the prophecy of Jeremiah but that of the end of days.
I like us to remember that Daniel was a eunuch who served in the palace directly with the king during the days of Nebuchadnezzar, he gained so much fame that he was preferred to all the other wise men especially because of his ability to tell the king’s dream. He occupied same position till Belshazzar the son of the king took over, again Daniel was well placed and favored and he was highly honored. When Belshazzar was overthrown and Darius took over, again Daniel was made the head of all the princes and presidents. One may say Daniel lived in luxury as a political figure all through his youth.
From the life of Daniel, we can therefore see a man who had a heart for his people, the account in chapter 9 said he fasted for the fulfilment of Jeremiah’s prophecy that was to end their captivity, when we look at the status of Daniel we may ask ourselves what does he want again in life, he is influential, rich and old, he had lived all his life in affluence and enjoyed freedom of religion, but that was not enough for Daniel; he could not imagine the house of the Lord and the people of God in desolation, he was bothered about the resting place of God on earth which was Jerusalem in those days. When we come to today’s believers, many care less about the welfare of others once they are comfortable, they don’t mind what happens to the larger body of Christ and the wellbeing of other believers. Nothing bothers them about the heavenly Jerusalem knowing we are but pilgrims on earth, they would rather bother about making more money and connections, their heart is far from God’s economy. Check yourself today, are you living for the body of Christ or for the fulfillment of your personal ambition?

Topic: Daniel was a living epistle
Today’s Reading: 2 Cor 3:2-3
2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. KJV
Words of the Ministry:
Today we come to the conclusion of our lesson on the theme, life lessons from Daniel, we have looked at several aspects of the life of Daniel starting from his parental upbringing which we believe was responsible for his choices in the land of Babylon. We also saw the man Daniel and his unique choice of friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, we saw how the four of them became celebrated in the land of Babylon despite being righteous unto God, that goes against what today’s society preaches that you must be like the worlds to be a major influence, these four young men were living contrary to the life style of their days and God promoted them above others.
Daniel had a supernatural ability to interpret complex visons and dreams, he knew the secrets of men as he dwelt in the secret place, Daniel shared the dream of the kings and its interpretation, this he did during the reign of the three kings of his time. One of the major striking thing about Daniel was that his life always pointed the king and the people to the true God as we read Daniel 2.46-47, a pagan king acknowledged the God of Daniel, in Dan 4.34, 6.26-27, the kings again proclaimed the God of Daniel is the true God.
We have a lot to learn from the life of Daniel, his life was a pointer to the reality of his God, he was indeed a living epistle. Just as the bible says, he was the light in his world that shone the light in his age and time despite being in a strange land where they didn’t believe in his God. As we live our lives, we must live with a consciousness that men read our lives, we must ensure we don’t compromise to fit into the society but like the apostles turn the world upside down to promote righteousness, we must not because of earthly gain, promotion or recognition join the world to do evil, we must win souls at every opportunity as he that wins a soul is wise indeed, amen.
