Topic: Forgoing tradition to experience a miracle

Words of the Ministry:
Today as we further consider the theme experiencing the miraculous, I would be drawing some light from the account in John 5.1-9, a familiar story about a certain man who was lying at the pool for about 38 years hoping to be healed whenever an angel visited the pool and he happens to be the first to step in. That was the custom in those days, a few individuals that got healed were healed because they were fortunate enough to be the first to step into the pool once an angel visits the water and that became a tradition.
Jesus visited the man at the pool of Bethesda and asked the impotent man if he wanted to be healed but rather than saying yes, he gave an excuse why he had not been healed, he told Jesus the tradition of the place saying except he has someone to place him into the pool immediately an angel visits the water, he can’t be healed. Jesus did not bother explaining to him rather he healed him by his words
Looking at the account of the man at the pool of Bethesda, we see a parallel in today’s Church, many saints have learnt either from the experience of others or from their pastors that God answers prayers in a certain way and as a result, they have limited God to answer the prayers the same way, they are not open to any other possibility. They have been bound by tradition thereby making God’s word of no effect.
The man at the pool only knew a God that heals by the moving water but that encounter made him realize that God also heals via his word, check with your experience, have you limited God to answer your prayers only during revival meetings and crusades, do you believe except a pastor lays hands on you or apply olive oil on your forehead your condition cannot change or do you think your monthly salary is the only means through which God can change your status? It’s time to do away with the traditions of men.
God can do whatever he wants to do through any means, we must be open and ready for an encounter as nothing is impossible with him. A simple prayer said in faith may be all you need. Mant times, God just wants a simple obedience from us, he may just want us to take a step of faith, make sacrifices, turn our pain to praise, share our testimony or give to the needy to get our miracles. God cannot be bottled; he is God over all and can choose to answer our prayers as he deems fit. The Children of Israel experience manna as rain, Elijah was fed by a bird, the three Hebrew boys net the Lord in the fire, God had to change the name of Jacob to Israel while he overshadowed Mary, he just gave a prophetic word to Elizabeth. May the Lord grant us Light.
