Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we began our lesson on experiencing the miraculous, this week, we are considering some bible characters and how they experienced the miraculous. We hope from their experiences; we can draw some light to position us for the miraculous in our various endeavors. Yesterday, we looked at Mary, the mother of Jesus, who wasn’t expecting a miracle but found favor with God. We saw how she preserved her miracle with absolute believe and a closed mouth. We saw in Mary, someone that went through the process, it took 9 months for it to be fully manifested but she kept her tongue till fulfilment.
Today I would like to consider Simon who later became a disciple of Jesus, reading through Luke 5.1-11, we would realize that unlike Mary, Simon Peter was a fisher man expecting to catch fishes, labored all night without result. The account said having left his boat at the shore, the Lord Jesus used it for his sermon, on concluding his sermon, he asked Peter to launch for a catch, Peter was initially reluctant but later heeded to Jesus’s instruction. That day, he experienced a net breaking miracle as the fishes he caught tore his net.
Looking at Peter’s experience we would see a man who made efforts and was good at what he did. Despite being a professional with years of experience in his family business, he was willing to obey a carpenter’s son concerning fishing. God’s voice came contrary to his learning and experience, he obeyed, and he experienced a miracle. Many times, some believers are not like Peter, they don’t put in their best, they just wait sitting idle for a miracle. Again we see Peter on hearing from the Lord, took the advice and tried again, many saint’s todays are not like that, they remain bound by their experiences, when the Lord gives them a word either directly or through another person, they argue and give excuses, they explain why it can be work saying its illogical. Peter left his knowing, experiences and logic, he obeyed God and he experienced the miraculous.
Check with your experiences, have you been bound by your past failures, do you think God is unable to change the tide, have you concluded on your situation that things can never get better because of your past experiences. Why not like Peter give the Lord an opportunity to show his greatness in your career, marriage, health, etc. Like Peter, don’t lean on your own understanding, allow God to direct your path, where you were previously rejected, with God you would be celebrated.
