Topic: Walking in our inheritance
Today’s Reading: Gal 3:28-29 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Gen 22:17-18 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Words of the Ministry:
Today, we come to the conclusion of our lesson, joint heirs with Christ. We have seen the wonders of redemption, how God conceived the plan to give himself to us as an inheritance, how Christ carried out the plan through his death on the cross and how believers enjoy the inheritance which is the Spirit through salvation. We learnt that whereas God promised Abraham and his seed the blessing, the actual blessing is God himself (Gen 15.1) as the Spirit and the seed is Christ. Now that we have received the fore taste of the blessing, the God of glory becoming our inheritance in our Spirit, the next phase is to fulfil the purpose of the blessing as told Abraham in Gen. 22.17-18.
The bible said Abraham’s seed would possess the gates of his enemies. That is another way of saying the saints who are joint heirs with Christ would possess the gates of their enemies, to posses the gates of our enemies is to win nations and territories to Christ, it is to invade the earth with the light of God, to occupy till he comes. In Mat 16.18, we have a promise that the gates of hell won’t be able to withstand the advancement of the Church, that is what it means to possess the gates of our enemies. As believers, we are therefore expected to spread the light of Christ beyond our immediate environment until the knowledge of the glory of God fills the earth.
The second part of the blessing in verse 18 talks about all nations being blessed through the seed of Abraham, the saints as Abraham seed would not only possess the gates but bring about a transformation to their world. In whatever capacity we find ourselves, we are to be a blessing to society. That little thing you do should change your sphere of influence. As we read the story of some men like Michael Faraday, Isaac Newton, John Dalton, Earnest Walton etc, we would know that indeed they were a blessing to all the nations of the earth as today’s world would have been different without their inputs. Thay were all Christian and they blessed the nations of the earth. The blessings we received through Christ i.e the power, glory, blessings, honor, glory etc in the Holy Spirit is to bless lives and bring many to the knowledge of God. Our duty is not limited to the Church building, as a carpenter, barber, tailor, doctor, driver etc, you have been blessed to be a blessing, therefore walk in that reality. Christ is our life.
