Today’s Reading:
Eph 5.5-6
Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Col 3.5-6
Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Col 3:6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would be considering God’s judgement on the covetous, we have seen from through our lessons within the week the several definitions of covetousness and the evil it projects. We also learnt that covetousness is beyond we desiring things belonging to others, we said it includes we keeping all we have to ourselves or fighting to get what we don’t need.
From today’s reading, we can see that the messages were written to actual churches, that should concern us, not just that, the categories within which covetousness was listed included several wicked sins like whoremonger, uncleanliness, idolatry, inordinate affection etc. So, we could say before God an LGBT is same as a covetous person, they evil is same and God’s judgement awaits those who engages in them. The bible says the wrath of God is on them and they would not inherit the kingdom of God.
Dear saints, we are to present our bodies all living sacrifice, we must live consciously against covetousness. The sin of covetousness creeps in slowly in such a way that we don’t suspect it. One of the pointers is self-love, when we think everything good is meant to be for us alone. We are never willing to part with earthly things, when we believe earthly wealth and position is the pointer of success, when we are ungrateful for small things and always want to get the best of all things. May the Lord help our hearts, amen.
