Eph 4:25-28
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would be considering a practical application of our identity as the light of the world, our position as light should make us notable in our community. We learnt that without us the devil would continually have a field day. To effectively radiate the light of the world, it must start with a subjective experience within us, the degree of light we radiate is the extent to which we are transparent and free from darkness ourselves. Like Jesus in the gospels, he said the devil came and found nothing in him Jhn 14.30, no unfruitful work of darkness, little wonder his single light was most powerful, effective, and destructive to the kingdom of Darkness.
Our designation as God’s light, agent of deliverance and change starts with the light of God lightening our spirit (Pro 20.27), the bible says our spirit is the lamp of the Lord, this light in our spirit should from our spirit radiate to our soul and eventually to our body. For us to be effective light bearers, our soul must be free from the self and our bodies from the flesh, we must allow the light conquer the unfruitful works of darkness, that it what it means that darkness cant can’t overcome it or comprehend it, in other words our cooperation with the light of God in our Sprit guarantees a victory from within us changing us from one level of glory to another and making us more effective in carrying out our ministry as light of the world.
The second reading gives us more understanding on the matter, we are meant to deny the devil every inch he had in our soul and body, we are to overcome the unfruitful works of darkness starting from within us, the verse encourages us to put away stealing, lying, sinful anger, evil speaking and many more, as we read Gal 5.19-21, we see a list of these unfruitful works of darkness that acts as a barrier to the degree of light we can radiate. Dear saint, how great is your light, how effective is the witness of your Christian living, how much ground have you allowed the devil, how well have you overcome the old man and his works? The effectiveness of your ministry is not in how many things we do in the flesh rather it is to the extent to which Christ as our light shines through us his vessels. May the Lord grant us light.
