Life Capsule for Today                                             24th April 2026

Theme: Peacemakers (6)

Topic: When to choose war over peace

Memory Verse for the week: Mat 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Today’s Reading: Mat 10.34-39

Mat 10:34  Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Mat 10:35  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

Mat 10:36  And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

Mat 10:37  He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Mat 10:38  And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Mat 10:39  He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Words of the Ministry

In Rom 12.18, we see a little caveat, it reads Rom 12:18  If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. That is the burden of today’s sharing still under our week’s theme peacemakers. We have emphasized that God wants us to live peaceably, we said we shouldn’t recompense evil for evil and that our weapons of warfare are primarily against devils.  Today, I would introduce a little distinction as we must be clear considering the whole of God’s revelation concerning the matter, the bible admonishes us to be at peace as much as it is within your power. That immediately suggests there are occasions or situation where such peaceful living as seen from the perspective of the world is impossible and our disposition would rather be considered as a declaration war.

From today’s reading we see something that looks contradictory, the Lord Jesus that taught about we being peacemakers said he came to send a sword of disagreement between very close relationships between parents and their children, son in laws and their mother in-laws. On the surface, this may seem as an instigation for vengeful living but as we understand the context, we see a broader view of Jesus’ definition of peace and the reason Paul said as much as we can, we should live in peace. We live in a fallen world full of compromise and deceit and many would hate you because of your stance with God. God doesn’t want us to choose compromise in the name of peace over obedience and carrying the cross. The example Jesus gave is with our closest relationships, or parents and Children because many saints today cannot please God because of their quest to please their loved ones.

Dear saints, when it comes to choosing, we must choose God over and above all, we must carry our cross preferring to please Christ as our commanding officers deserving our best love, our parents, children or spouse may not understand, they may call it hatred just as Jesus said in the passage, they would say this gospel has become a means of separation or sword in this previously peaceful family, to all of their sentiments, we must say for me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Same goes to our colleagues, friends and neighbors, when it come s to obeying God, we must choose the sword over peaceful co-existence especially when it affects our walk with God.  We must ensure that at every point in our lives, we know when to apply the sword and when to apply peace, may the Lord grant us light.
