Today’s Reading 1Co 2:9-11
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would be concluding our lesson on Jabez, a man of sorrow who sought the blessing not just for himself but for others, the bible said God answered him and he became a blessing indeed as God enlarged his coast and reach. Like our topic suggests, we are today’s Jabez, the bible says we are free from the curse of the law through the new birth but beyond that we are to be a light to the world around us. The blessing we got at the new birth is the Holy Spirit (Gal 3.14), he is the actual blessing made as a promise to Abraham through his seed Jesus Christ (Gal 3.16). This is the actual blessing promised in Genesis to everyman who is a natural Jabez and under the curse of sorrow and pain placed on Adam and Eve in the Garden (Gen 3).
By virtue of the blessing, are expected to be a blessing to the world around us, we are meant to expand and extend the kingdom in our sphere, in Mat 5.14, the bible says we are the Light of the world, we are the blessed Jabez among the sons of men, we are to seek God to make our blessing far reaching. In Eph 3.20, the bible says “Now unto him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”, in other words, whatever we ask or think is too small for God to do, regardless of how mighty it seems to us, once it comes as a request or thought, it automatically becomes too small. We musty like Jabez want much more, although he was more honorable than his brethren, he sought God to extend the blessing to others.
Our today’s Reading makes us to understand that what God can do and would do in and through us is beyond what eyes can see or think, in other words, it is a secret beyond the comprehension of mankind. That then suggests that even the best of science and technology is still nothing compared to what God intend to do and thankfully we don’t have to labor to get it, the bible says although it is kept a secret from the ages, he has revealed to us through his Spirit. when we juxtapose that with Eph 3.20, we see that those thoughts that we have through the spirit or even those request that seems too big is actually from God through the Spirit and God is willing to do it. What this then means it, those great and mighty thought of yours be it in ministry, marriage, community service, business, science, technology, academics etc is still too small for God as God is the source and the doer. We are therefore expected to like Jabez, ask for more, expand our reach and shine the light. May the Lord grant us light.
