Topic: Life changed without a name change
Memory Verse for the week: Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Today’s Reading: 1Ch 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
Words of the Ministry:
Saints, as we proceed on the life of Jabez, we come to a unique junction, today we would be seeing something unique to Jabez in the Old Testament. The bible records that God granted the request of Jabez. God changed his sorrowful situation to a joyful one, his pains were replaced with testimonies and he became a reference point to those seeking answers from God. Something unique to Jabez was that unlike other Old Testament and some New Testament saints, God changed his life without necessarily changing his name. One could easily bring to mind persons like Abram who became Abraham, Jacob who became Israel, Simon who was named Peter. Following their change of name, we saw a change in their life but the case of Jabez was different.
We can see from the case of Jabez that God is not necessarily bound to do things in a traditional way, the only thing common to every encounter with God is faith. In some cases, God could change our situation through a dramatic experience like a change of name while in some other situations, he does that by simply meeting our need and not necessarily changing our environment. God is not necessarily limited by your situation. Even in your current location, marriage or business, God can bring about the desired change. Jabez prayed that God should bless him, enlarge his coast and protect him from evil, God did all this despite his name Jabez. We must be open to have an encounter; we should not doubt God’s ability because of how God answered others. We must remain focused and faithful to enjoy God’s intervention.
Dear saint, your situation could be a financial challenge and you think you need human connection, a job challenge and you think the solution is an extra degree, marital challenge and you need you are not beautiful enough or even health challenge and you think you need a surgery. Please note all those solutions you have worked out is like a change of name, God could still do the miracle like he did for Jabaz without changing your name. Our God is the God of all impossibilities. Don’t be trapped by traditions, God does his will through any means. We must remain open to have a change of life without necessarily changing our name. May the Lord grant us light.
