Life Capsule for Today 22nd March, 2025
Theme: Jesus the I AM (6)
Memory Verse: Heb 13:8
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
Topic: Jesus as the true vine
Today’s Reading: Joh 15:1-8
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
Words of the Ministry:
Today we come to the last I AM statement of Jesus in the book of John, throughout the week we have seen Jesus using metaphors as the door, the shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the bread of life etc but in this last use, Jesus said he is the true vine. So just as we had the true bread, unlike the ordinary bread which the Israelites ate and still died, so do we have the true vine, in other words, whatever the vine represented in application, Jesus was the true vine. Not only that, Jesus went further to say his father is the husbandman, so just as he is the door to the sheep fold which meant the door into the kingdom and fellowship with God, again, Jesus using this metaphor is showing a relationship between himself, the father and the saints.
Of all the I am Statements; it appears that this particular one emphasizes more on the responsibility of the saints and the consequences of the believers not taking responsibility for their living. Here the disciples and by extension the believers are the branches, Jesus is saying if we as the branch abide in the vine, we would bear much fruit. The vine here representing the source of life to the branches so that they can bear fruit, Christ being the true vine meant he is the true source of life and the real life. Every believer who has been washed by his word and grafted into him must therefore abide in him to continually bring fruit pleasing to the father, that we see in Gal 5.22-24. If the believer doesn’t bring up such fruit, such persons would be cut off and would suffer loss.
Jesus further said that abiding in him was not only pleasing to the father but it was the key to answered prayers, he said if a man abides in him and his words abide in the man, meaning that the word or the will of God is what we benefit from the vine that translates into bearing fruits of the spirit, it is a life controlled by the Lord. That would shape our desires and consequently help us to prevent praying amiss. The believer is therefore responsible to cling to Jesus, we must not live a loose life else we would suffer loss, may then Lord grant us light.
