Life Capsule for Today 21st March, 2025
Theme: Jesus the I AM (6)
Memory Verse: Heb 13:8
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
Topic: Jesus as the way, truth and life
Today’s Reading: Joh 14:1 -6
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would be looking at another I AM statement of Jesus, this time it was said following a lengthy conversation Jesus had with his disciples in chapter 13, he informed them of his death, he mentioned one of them would betray him and also told Peter he was going to deny him. It was a sorrowful moment and Jesus addressing them in chapter 14 encouraged them that they shouldn’t be troubled. although this portion of scripture is commonly used during burial services, it has a greater relevance to the saint while alive. Thomas, asked, show us the way to where you are going hence you promised we would be with you in the father’s house, Jesus then answered that he was the way to the father, he was the truth they sought and he was the life they needed to live.
Jesus using this metaphor answered the question of every true seeker. Regardless of religious profession, for all those that believe in the existence of God, the common question we all ask is what is the true way to God, which religion, sect or group is actually preaches the truth, what path would I follow to gain eternal life. Jesus foreseeing their thought did not only answer the question concerning the way to the father but also the truth and the life. For the 12 disciples, having spent so long time with Jesus, they would have been asking themselves, hence he is leaving us now, what way do we go, who would continually show us the truth and how do we inherit life eternal. To all of their questions, the answer was Jesus.
Dear saints, we need to remind and encourage ourselves that Jesus is not one of the ways to God as many say and neither does he just point the way to us, rather he is the way, this was the name the early Christians were called, men and women that showed the way. Who else would you trust the way himself or someone talking about the way. He is also the truth personified, not just in teaching but living. He is true to all who trust in him. He is not a version of truth that changes with time, he is the truth, and he is also the life. He is not just living unlike other dead gods and prophets, he is the author, initiator, sustainer and keeper of life itself. That should always encourage us. May the Lord grant us light.
