Life Capsule for Today 18th March, 2025
Theme: Jesus the I AM (3)
Memory Verse: Heb 13:8
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.
Topic: Jesus as the door
Today’s Reading: Jhn 10.6-10
6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly
Words of the Ministry:
Today we come to the third I Am statement of Jesus in the book of John, yesterday we saw him as the light but today we are seeing him as the door. The particular event that made Jesus use this metaphor of being the door is quite instructive. It followed an incidence that happened to a man born blind who got miraculously healed by Jesus. The Pharisees out of envy wanting to run Jesus down made several attempts to make the man accuse Jesus of using an unclean power to heal, after failing to manipulate him, they eventually drove the man out of the temple. These prompted Jesus to say he was the real door, although the pharisees shut the man out for identifying with Jesus, Jesus used the opportunity to teach them the truth using a parable.
It was common in those days to have the sheepfold (where the sheep slept overnight) next to the home of the shepherd. That meant to enter the sheepfold was to come home. So the home of the shepherd was home for the sheep and to go to the sheep was for the Shepard to go home. So Jesus being the door meant he was the only means of coming home to God and the only way to entering the sheep fold, that is becoming part of God’s people. There is no other way. When you go through “the door,” you are home, able to go “in and out” (10:9), where you find an abundant life, complete with fullness and freedom. What an incredible metaphor! Especially for a beggar who found himself alone and in need of a home.
I believe this is a great encouragement for many saints today, we must realize that now that we are no more blind in sin, now that the world has thrown us out, we have a home, a true home with the shepherd. You might have been ostracized by your family and community for accepting Jesus and taking a stand for righteousness, please be encouraged that Jesus is the door to life and satisfaction in life, whatever you might have lost is nothing compared to what awaits you. David in Psalm 23 alluding to this mystery said because the Lord was his shepherd, he didn’t lack any good thing. As we journey with Jesus, goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives, today’s reading says “if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. That is a word of assurance for all genuine seekers of the Lord, in due season, you would find pasture. Shalom!
