Today’s Reading:
Joh 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Joh 1:4-15
14 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
15 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we saw Jesus metaphorically as the bread of life, we did learn that true satisfaction only comes through Jesus. We said many today labor for that which won’t satisfy and unfortunately the church sermons are centered around bread for the belly while Jesus wants to offer us the true bread that would satisfy our spirit, soul, and body. Today we would be seeing the second I am statement of Jesus in the book of John, here he refers to himself as the light of the world. This statement indicates that what Jesus provides is for the entire world as the bible makes us to understand that the whole world lies in wickedness (1 Jhn 5.19) which is evidence of the reign of the evil one, Satan in the lives of men.
From today’s reading, we see that Jesus is the light and that light is the life of men, without Jesus as our guide, we would sure end in the ditch. The Christian life must therefore be piloted by Jesus, not by making natural choices of good and evil as even our good and evil is darkness. When a man has not seen the light of Christ, he may feel he is in good standing with the lord but when he comes to light, he begins to see how wretched and dirty he is. A believer may not even know that there are still some pending matters in his life, these issues may not be obvious sins like fighting, stealing or committing immorality but when he moves closer to the light, he or she begin to notice the little idolatry in his or her life, we begin to see that we spend too much time on social media, talking to friends, pursuing our ambition or sleeping without having ample time to study the word or evangelize.
Dear saint, the ministry of the light would ever remain relevant in our lives else we walk in darkness. Jesus said while he is in the world he is the light of the world (Jhn 9.5), showing people what it means to walk in obedience to the will of God. Now that he is not in the world and we are, we are the light of the world (Mat 5.14-16), we are the standard that the world should use to know the meaning of righteousness, holiness and obedience to God. We are to beam the light of the gospel everywhere we go; we are to show the world that indeed their deeds are evil by being the opposite of darkness. We must ask ourselves, How great is our light, the pharisees saw Jesus and had to confess he was indeed a man from God, the people heard him and said he was different from the scribes, the soldiers listened to him and confessed no man ever spoke like this man, the kings and priest had to admit he was indeed the son of God, that is the ministry of light. May the Lord grant us light.
