Life Capsule for Today 16th Dec, 2024
Theme: Power of Positive Confession (2)
Topic: God’s promises cancelled by negative confession
Memory Verse for the week: Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof
Today’s Reading: Num 13.30-33
30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
Words of the Ministry
As we proceed with our lesson concerning the power of positive confession, we would be considering a very familiar story which began as a covenant to Abraham the friend of God. God promised Abraham after he left Ur that his descendants would inherit the land of Canaan after 400 years of slavery. God kept to his promise by raising a deliverer called Moses whom he sent to the Children of Israel while they were slaves in Egypt with a promise that he wanted to give them the land of Canaan and neighboring lands. After leaving Egypt, God was set to bring his covenant promise to pass, God said it was time to enter the covenant promise of their forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Moses sent some 12 spies including Joshua and Caleb to go spy the Land, the men brought their report and with the exception of Joshua and Caleb, every other person that went to spy the land said they couldn’t conquer the land, that the land ate its inhabitants and that giants lived on the land, they meant they stood no chance making it to the land or being alive even if they did.
Unfortunately, the people believed the report of the 10 probably because they were in the majority, they began to murmur and complain against God and Moses, they opted to choose another leader that would lead them back to Egypt, they even tried to stone Caleb and Joshua when they tried to discourage them from their evil plan (Numbers 34). All this made God angry, and God said because of what they had done, all the people age 20 and above would not enter the promise land. They all died roaming through the wilderness in 40 years.
Saints the foregoing story is a lesson to us, regardless of the promises of God, we have a role to play, we are to believe and confess right. Many have lost their testimonies at the edge of a breakthrough because of the Canaanites and the Amalekites. They are quick to forget the promises of God, they are easily influenced by the lies of the devil. The devils master key is fear and once he makes us to disbelieve God’s word, we begin to confess fear and defeat, and immediately that is done, he steals our breakthrough. God has made many promises to you in his word and probably as you fast this year. You must be careful of negative confession as the devil always presents situations that would make us doubt God. It could be through the news media, your doctor, a lawyer, financial advice, your pastor or even your spouse. There are too many voices out there these days, we must learn to separate the truth from facts using the word of God. Shalom.
