Words of the Ministry:
Yesterday we saw Grace as Christ and we realized that grace is beyond what we receive from God or what we normally refer to as testimonies which is most times objective rather it is we enjoying the sufficiency of Christ living through us and enabling us. Today we intend to look at another aspect of grace which is victorious Christian living. From today’s readings, two words stand out, Law and Grace. The word ‘Law’ there symbolizes the Old Covenant, God’s agreement with Israel, and all the terms and conditions of that Covenant are all included in that one word, ‘Law’. And Grace, in one word, sums up God’s new agreement through the Lord Jesus Christ, and all the terms and conditions of that new agreement.
The bible teaches that those of us who are under the grace of God are not under the dominion of sin, the new covenant of grace therefore gives us the victory which the old testament saints could not enjoy. In the old covenant, man was limited to the holy place, he could not enter the Holy of holies because God was too holy for man. After the death of Christ, the veil separating the Holy place from the Holy of holies tore and now we can boldly come to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and grace in time of need (Heb 4.16). By implication it means that our life and living must be of a higher standard to have such unhindered fellowship with the Holy God. That is where grace comes in, grace doesn’t make God overlook the sin and call evil good rather, it enables us to live a life that is pleasing to God beyond what all the old testament saints could do. Jesus speaking said John the Baptist was the greatest of all men that lived but the least in the kingdom of Heaven, that meant men of this dispensation of grace is greater than him. Comparing grace to law is like comparing the speed of a bicycle to an airplane, while the bicycle which signifies the law would take us to certain destinations, it is really limited and slow when compared to an airplane.
Many saints today claim they are under grace because they are not legalistic or keep the ceremonial laws of Moses, that may be a way of checking your status by human standards but by God’s standard, what we need to check for is, does sin have dominion over you or not, if yes, you are still under the law and if no, you have indeed found grace. To be under grace is to live beyond the natural human standard or the 10 commandments. Imagine reading that Moses raped a baby or Elijah stole, it may have sounded so bad to you but despite being under the law they could live beyond such low standards, now imagine Paul or Peter in the bible accused of fraud and sexual immorality. One cannot even imagine that and so are we, we are under grace and sin should not have dominion over us, we are free from the power of sin, in other words, we can say no to sin because the grace of God is within us, in Heb 4.16, the bible says we find grace in times of need, when the tempter comes, we are to approach the throne of grace to find help. May God grant us light.
