Topic:       Job the righteous

Bible Text: Job 1:8 – 12

8  And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

9  Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

10  Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

11  But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

12  And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

Words of the Ministry

Today we come to the story of a man called Job, the bible said he suffered a lot from the hand of Satan who felt the blessings and protection of God was the reason Job served God. The account of Job said he was the most righteous man in the east and at the same time the richest, that further proves that righteousness is not tantamount to poverty, it show that a man can be Godly and rich. The devil in the story approached God and God was bragging about the life of one off his saints on earth called Job, the devil said all he owned was protected and that was why he served God. We again see the blessedness of true worship that even without binding Satan here and there, a righteous life is a natural defense against the attack and weapons of Satan. God permitted Satan to tempt Job, this made Job lose his seven sons, his three daughters, seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys in one day.

The trials in the life of Job was not because of his sin rather because he was righteous and God was proud of him. Job’s three friends came and tried to comfort him but later began to blame him saying he must have been doing evil for him to suffer this much, even Job’s wife encouraged him to curse God and die, Job was left with no man to comfort him as the closest persons to him saw him as a sinner, that again is  a lesson to us, not all the sufferings we go through is as a result of sin, while a man that commits sin may suffer little on earth, the righteous at times suffer longer not because God is weak and unreliable rather because God is refining us to further make us like himself.  It is very convenient to blame sinfulness as the cause of suffering but from the life of Job we can see it’s not always so. In all of these sufferings, Job did not offend God rather he worshiped God, he said that he came into this world with nothing and will return with nothing, the Lord has taken away all he had except his wife – and his wife told him to “curse God and die” – and Job also blessed the name of the Lord instead.

Dear saints, as we read the account of Job we see that indeed God does not lose a point as God through that experience further exposed Job to himself as a self righteous person, Job later got all he lost in multiple fold and the bible said his later years were better that his previous, he again had seven sons and three daughters, his daughters were the most beautiful in their generation and the life of Job was spared for another 140 years which made him see his children and his children’s children. You might have questioned God about your challenges, many might have said it’s your sin or that God has abandoned you, you may not even have anyone encouraging you, I like you to also know that our sufferings at times is because God is happy with us, he is proud of us and wants to glorify himself through our lives before men. We may not fully understand what we go through now but in the years to come, we would look back in thanks for today’s suffering. We must not compromise nor look back as God who saw Job through is the same. May the Lord grant us light.
