Today’s Reading: John 17:1-5
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. NKJV
Words of the Ministry:
Today we would be looking at the definition of Life and how to access it. Jesus was speaking concerning Zoe, the eternal life in Jhn 17. 3 said “3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent”. As we ponder on Jesu’s revelation, we realize that eternal life is not to do good things or to know about God but to know God, it therefore follows that for someone to have eternal life, he must have begun an adventure of knowing God and every other person who doesn’t have eternal life certainly doesn’t know God regardless of his or her religion or character.
To better unveil the meaning of knowing God, I would relate the word as used in some other passages in scripture. In Gen 4.4, the same word interpreted knew is again used to talk about an intimate knowledge between Adam and Eve. Again when we read in Exo 33.13, Moses praying to God and asking that God should show him his ways, that he may know him. This is a man that had walked with God for several years, had seen the red sea part, had done miracles in the name of Jehovah etc, He still requested that he wanted to have a deeper intimate relationship with God. Then in the new testament, we see one of the Chief apostles who labored most making same request in Phil 3.10, Paul said that he may know God, the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his suffering. In the gospel, in Mat 7. 21-23, we see Jesus making a comments on certain men who did miracles in his name but he said he never knew them and despite not knowing them, they did wonders in his name. In the parable of the 10 virgins, the Lord again told the foolish one he never knew them and the door was shut against them Mat 25.12.
Saints as we consider the above references, we draw a number of conclusions. We realize that the Zoe is gotten through us believing in Christ, but not only that, our cooperation with the Lord that he may envelope our being, that our soul and body may be saturated and filled with his life. In the cases of Moses, he couldn’t enjoy it as God could not dwell in him. In the account of Paul, we see a man who had God in him but wanted to be fully saturated with God in his entire soul and body. He was like an Oliver twist asking for more. Those mentioned in Mathew 17 are the likes of those that get saved and are satisfied with only miracles and power of God, they don’t press in to be fully enveloped by God. The 5 foolish virgins are also a type of such Christians who limit the Lord to their spirit and deny him an expression in their soul, yes they are true believers but they lost their reward.
Eternal life therefore as seen in the example of Adam and Eve is for God and man to be mingles together to become one, is for the life of God to saturate the whole of our being until men see Christ fully manifested as the prove of Zoe is Light. Concerning Jesus, those that sat in darkness saw a great light. Little wonder the desire of Paul in Gal 4:19-20 “19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you, “. Paul’s desire and God’s desire is that we know God and Jesus whom God had sent, that means we have deep fellowship with God and allow his Spirit to find expression in our soul and body. We must not be satisfied with a surface knowledge of God and neither should our testimony remain that God is in our Spirit, we must grow in life that God may be all that is in us and through us expressed as life and light, amen.
