Topic:  Living in God’s Consciousness 2 – Doing

Today’s Reading:

Joh 3:1-1

1  There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2  The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Joh 5:19-21

19  Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

20  For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

21  For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

Words of the Ministry:

This week we have been considering the theme, Emmanuel-God is with us, and we have seen the several benefits that accompanies this reality. Yesterday we began looking at how we can maximize this truth, how we can walk in this reality, and we started out by saying its important we know that God is with us regardless of our situation, we did emphasize that it is not a matter subject to feeling rather we are to live by faith. Today we would be looking at another key that enables us to practice his presence and that is doing. It is one thing to know a thing and another thing entirely to do what you really believe is true, that is where we exercise faith. A vast majority of believers know certain truths but because they don’t do it, it remains to them as a mere motivation.

Our memory verse says teaching them to observe, some versions say obey while others say keep or do, to observe therefore is to do what we have been commanded, notice the verse didn’t say teaching them all I have commanded you rather teach them to observe or to do. It is at the junction of doing many doubt God, they are not confidently relying on the word, for instance the bible says, lay your hands on the sick and they shall recover, many quote it but never lay their hands on the sick and because they don’t obey, they never see God heal the sick through them, same applies to giving and trusting the lord, supernatural health, divine direction and many others. The church must learn to do as that is one of the indicators of spiritual maturity, to do the will of the father.

From today’s reading we see Nicodemus saying they the pharisee know God is with Jesus because of what he did and not only what he knew or preached. Jesus in the second reading said whatever he saw his father doing, he did also, that’s quite instructive. Many of us have been seeing the father do something but we are not doing anything, you may ask when have we seen the father do things? The answer is in the word, when you see the father heal the sick, deliver the oppressed, help the needy etc from his word which is his will, we must do the same and then both you and the world around you would see that indeed God is with you. We see in  Act 10:38  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. From the reading we can deduce that God was with him because the people saw what happened when he obeyed God by doing. Check with your experience, how well have you declared the promises of God over you family, business, and situation, it’s not just to know, you must do and that includes speaking it forth. Just as a man cannot be saved by only reading or listening to the scriptures, you must also confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord of your Life (Rom 10.9), so is only knowing not complete, to show you really believe, you must confess, and do what you believe, may the Lord grant us light.
