Topic: Further dangers of unforgiveness
Text: Eph 4:29-32
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Words of the Ministry
We have considered our need to forgive as unforgiveness leads to unanswered prayers, we also saw the example of our Lord Jesus, while he was to be arrested, Peter saw Judas as the betrayer, saw the soldiers, the messengers of the Sadducees and Pharisees as their enemy but the Lord saw the cup his father has given him (Jhn 18.11). We did emphasize yesterday that most times we accuse people wrongly as some of our negative experiences concerning our day-to-day relationship is orchestrated to build our character. Instead of passing blame on our family, friends and neighbors, we should drink the cup of betrayal, cheating, slander, insult etc as the Lord permits it at times for our organic growth in life. How would we have known Jesus was forbearing if not for the things he suffered? Saints, the bible says even one strand of hair from our head can’t drop without God knowing (LK 12.7), if the Lord allowed the pain even after praying then know it’s for your good.
Forgiveness is a self-loving act we must do, it doesn’t take the Holy Spirit to be unforgiving, we must do away with bitterness at all cost as bitter roots will end up producing bitter fruits. There are examples like that of Absalom and Ammon (2 Sam 13. 23-28), two years after Ammon raped Absalom’s sister Tamar, Absalom still unforgiving invited Ammon to a party got him drunk and eventually slew his brother because of unforgiveness. Unforgiveness buried in our hearts would certainly lead to actions we would eventually regret in future. It is a dangerous seed that could hide for 10, 20 or even 30 years, while hiding it begins to change your personality gradually into something else.
Unforgiveness has been proven to not only lead to unanswered prayers but various sicknesses ranging from ulcer to arteritis, high blood pressure, obesity, skin diseases, sleep disorder etc. What makes unforgiveness worse is that it moves in the company of several other evils. It is a multi-headed sin that moves in the company of others like malice, wrath, slander, gossip, hatred, vengeance, bitterness, divorce, murder, infidelity. The bible warns that we should be forgiving even as God forgave us for Christ sake. We should forgive others for Christ sake, at every time we choose unforgiveness, we are displaying ingratitude to Christ. May the Lord grant us light.
