Words of the Ministry
A vast majority of believers are not serious with their prayers; many just say prayers like a ritual hoping just maybe there is a God that may answer if he wills. Our attitude towards God when we pray really matters. Our text states that our prayers must be effective and fervent. When we approach God in a loose way, when we get easily distracted with a phone call, Television program or even by a guest, it shows our prayers doesn’t even matter to us.
Dear saint, a prayer that doesn’t move you cannot move God. I always like to emphasize on the intensity of prayers from the area our concentration and not necessarily duration, when we pray, we must commit our whole being to God, we should not just say words, we must pray with all our mind, will and emotion. An effective prayer is not necessarily a payer that spans for five or ten hours rather it’s a prayer that we pray with the totality of our being, it is a time when we are one with God and nothing else matters. When we pray like this, we touch God with our prayers.
We must also be persistent, the second reading says we should ask, seek and knock. In the Greek those words are used in the present tense, as genuine seekers we must pray and pray again, we should not just quit simply because our request isn’t answered the first time. Our prayer life, beyond being for answered prayers and fellowship is also to build our character.
Many parents can relate with this, when you want to get the attention of your child, you may temporarily deny him a certain gift or toy. By so doing, it becomes easier to pass a message across. We get the child’s attention and make him do what is right. So is our heavenly father, a temporary delay is to pass a message across to us atimes, it may be to improve our character, faith, help our endurance or even to make us have empathy for other going through worse situations. May God grant us light. Shalom.
