Words of the Ministry

Today we come to the conclusion of the lesson, character and destiny. Although we saw a few good and bad examples of how character affected the destiny of some bible characters, we must say the list is inexhaustible as time and space wouldn’t permit us to consider all possible examples. Today I like to comment on the way of progress, having noticed a character flaw in our lives, what do we do to improve on it. What is the way out, the way of victory? As we ponder on the sacrificial work of Christ and the various realities it affords, we come to the conclusion that the old man, our self-life has been crucified but many saints don’t have this as a living reality. They still act bound, feel bound and from their experience can’t testify of their freedom from sin (Rom 6.14).

I like to paint a picture concerning how character works with the devil to thwart destinies. Imagine a scenario where a greedy and covetous sister is invited to a function and was put in charge of food and drinks, because of her greed, she keeps some bottles of wine, pieces of meats and can drinks away hoping no one would notice. Unfortunately, her colleagues discovered because the food and drink became inadequate, they reported her to her boss and she was fired or quarried or never trusted with any serious assignment for stealing. Such a sister may severally blame the devil for fighting her livelihood or even blame her colleagues but what she doesn’t know is that that character flaw of covetousness is the open door she has left open for the devil to steal her destiny and until she realizes it and corrects it, she would continually have such negative testimonies.

From today’s reading, Jesus commenting on his victorious living before his death said the devil came and found nothing. That was the reason the devil never had an opportunity against him. Jesus had a perfect character; the flesh had no way of expression so the devil couldn’t affect his destiny in any way. Many times we blame the devil, talking of how deadly and wicked he could be and how saints could be severally dealt with by satan but may I say it isn’t the devil that is powerful rather it is the thing he has found in you, that negative character born out of the flesh, that is the real deadly poison within you. That is what the devil prompts that make you express anger, immoral acts, violent behavior, uncontrolled speech etc.

The bible in 2 Pet 1.5-8 states the way of progress, it says we must add to our faith virtue and to virtue knowledge and to knowledge temperance etc, the list goes on and on. The key point I like us to note is that to have victory, we must admit we need help and to experience that victory, it takes our deliberate effort as the bible says we must add, we are the one to add it and how do we add it? 1. By meditating on the word we renew our mind (Rom 12.1), 2. By praying over such weaknesses (Eph 6.18), 3, By seeking counsel ad guidance from other saints (Heb 10.25), 4. Keeping a good company of likeminded believers who would tell you the truth about yourself (1 Cor 15.33, Pro 13.20), Pro 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. We must be careful with our circle of friends as evil communication may corrupt even the best of persons. As we do the above, I believe you would testify, may the Lord grant us light. Amen, tomorrow is Peniel please come early with family and friends.
