Topic:  The devil suggesting alternatives to Us (C)

Today’s Reading: Mat 4:8  Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

Mat 4:9  And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Mat 4:10  Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Words of the Ministry:

Amen, within the week, we have seen the meaning of wilderness experiences, emphasis was made on its universality to all saints and the organic benefits it affords. From the first temptation, we saw Jesus being tempted based on his physical needs, we said just as we experience same, the devil begins to suggest several alternative ways of compromise to us with the aim of soiling our testimony and making us lose fellowship with God, when he realizes we stand with the word, then he may also go with the word and just like the second temptation, he would tempt us to put God to a test by saying hence it is written and you believe, your experience should be different, by this we are tempted to doubt God and even speak evil about God, for instance a man suffering lack could be reminded that ” it is written he became poor for your riches, why are you still poor, you better help yourself as heaven helps those who help themselves”, All of that false application is to make us choose alternatives to the will of God.

Today, I would be looking at the third temptation, the tempter (Satan) told Jesus he was to give him the kingdoms of the world and its glory if he would worship him. To understand this, we must remind ourselves that Adam lost control of the Earth to Satan so his claim was right and the goal of Jesus was to win the world to God and express the glory of the father in all the earth, so the devil knowing these, attempted to steal his destiny. Jesus again turned to the word and told the devil, only God deserves worship and service. From the response of Jesus, we didn’t see him negotiating the possibility of gaining some of the world, we also saw the meaning of worship that it was more than a once in a life time thing, it actually meant to serve the devil for the world.

Saints, As we apply same to us while in our wilderness experiences, I wouldn’t know the several promises of God to you, they may seem far fetched and the devil is beginning to suggest you worship him, making it sound like a one off thing but rather it is to serve him and eventually lose your soul. Many saints for the glory of the earth, fame, power and money have worshipped the devil and since then have been serving him. The devil dangles their visions before them and a short cut to reaching there and immediately they fall for it because of impatience and not wanting to suffer long.  James commenting on this said in James 1.14-15 “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death”. Saints, we must like Jesus carry our cross to Golgotha, accept the full crucifixion of then flesh in order to enjoy the glory ahead of us, that is the pattern, any shortcut is to be cut short.  May the Lord grant us light.
