Bible Reading:

Rom 4:3  For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Words of the Ministry:

Today we would be concluding our week long lesson on faith building principles, we have seen that faith is a major element in our walk with God as without it, it is impossible to please God, we saw that faith comes by the word, the origin of faith is the word from scripture or from God’s children, we said when we receive the word and it finds grace in us, it leads to faith but faith also needs meditation followed by prayers then doing and finally teaching. As we go through the cycle, we would realize that our faith would continually grow. The last element I like to talk about is the element of dealings. While many are familiar with faith growing by God answering prayers and meeting their needs, there is another way by which faith grow rarely talked about and mostly associated with the devil and that  way is by dealings, God dealing with us and we dealing with God.

From my own experience, I would say that faith grows and become more enduring after the Lord deals with us and we bear the dealings till the end. It is one thing for us to believe God because he is he great provider and he provided what we believe is our need as at when we asked, it is another thing for us to trust God’s judgment when we make a request and he doesn’t answer as we expect but later gives us what he feels best, most times when this second scenario occurs, we don’t just get something from God rather God gets something from us, he gains us more, we become further conformed to his image, our faith is not dependant on needs being met rather it’s based on love for God. That is maturity, sonship and an evidence of growth. We must realize that as we have our personal goals, God also has a goal and the easiest way to achieve his goal is to use our needs to get our attention.

As we read today’s passages, we see the word referred to as fire and hammer, they are means of burning and breaking, we see the reference to Abraham the father of faith, he was severally dealt with, delay in child birth, wars, rebellious slave, discontented nephew, envious kings etc. All these he suffered while following God faithfully. As Abraham went through this, God was making him a man of faith, his faith was not based on what he got from God but from knowing God through dealing, a man like Abraham could tell a younger believer that I know him, he can’t fail, he reserves the best for his children, little wonder he was willing to sacrifice his son. Saint, the bible said all things work together for our good (Rom 8.28) be it good or bad. It is recorded that despite being a son, Jesus learnt obedience through the things he suffered (Heb 5.8), that is the meaning of dealing, to have a mature and enduring faith, you must bear dealings, shalom.
