Words of the Ministry
Yesterday we started a series on financial prosperity and stewardship and our emphasis was on the truth the God wants us to be financially prosperous. Today we want to look at the duty of believers concerning this will of God. Like all truth in the bible, God has his role and so does man have his, it would be absolutely irresponsible for man to neglect his role and expect to see the promises of God come through. Today I want to highlight some certain roles we as believers must take ups as responsibility to enjoy financial abundance. The first is renewing our mind, a vast majority of Christians still struggle with the idea that God wants them to be financially prosperous, they have a poverty mindset trapped within them and that is one of the major hindrances to their deliverance. Every spiritual reality starts with knowing. One can relate it to a man that has been saved and is still bound with condemnation, another example is a man that still struggles with the idea that Jesus still heals or the holy Spirit still empowers believers, except the mind is renewed, he or she may never enjoy the provision despite the reality. The mind is a battle ground and the battle for financial abundance must be won their first (Rom 12.2, 2 Cor 10.3-5).
Another is that you must be skilled at what you do, get trained, get adequate knowledge and kings would locate you. Proverbs 22:29 says Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. KJV, the word diligent could also be interchanged as skillful. If we as believers want to enjoy financial prosperity, not only should we know its Gods will, we must also be committed to excellence, a loose and shabby attitude towards work would only land you in poverty and a life of frustration. If your chosen carrier requires western education, be at your best, study well, get good certification as much as necessary. Should you be an artisan, get properly trained, spend time on what you have learnt and put in your best at whatever you do. A business person too must be honest, hardworking, ready to listen and take corrections.
The next important key to note is that we must see financial prosperity from God’s view, firstly it’s a tool in our hands to glorify God, it’s not to boost our ego or to show to the world we have arrived, it is to make us humbler as even wealth is a test of character. Many believers fail the test of wealth, they begin to live loose lives and God frowns at that, it’s God that gives us power to make wealth (Deut 8.18). At salvation, we say we have given our lives to God, the implication of this is all we have in our custody even our money belongs to him, we must never make money an idol else we would be working against God’s plans for our lives. We must keep in mind that God is a jealous God and he won’t share his glory with man neither would he want to lose any of us. When a believer begins to live a loose life, he is writing letters to poverty, he is saying Lord, return me to my earlier state of lack.
Giving must also be a part of our routine to remain financially stable, we must give first to God and his kingdom, we must give to the needy as we are not only showing our love for men but our appreciation towards God. Giving is a central part of our financial prosperity. I would dedicate one of the days for the subject of giving to have a detailed look at it.
That leads me to another closely related point, we must learn to invest and re-invest, certain parables point to tis in scripture (Matt 25.14-30), a wise disciple must invest and not waste his resources. Concerning giving, there must be a balance, some over emphasize on giving and end up in poverty as they have left the principle of investment, money not invested can never multiply, I don’t recommend you give all your income to the church in the name of seed sowing, some don’t even pay their children school fees, house rent or their debt but give all they have to a church or preacher calling it an act of faith. We must realize that we would give account of our money and spending to the Lord, we must invest well with knowledge and not just put God’s money in a get rich quick system or any illegal venture and then begin to pray. May God grant us light.
